This is the response from the Junior Kangaroos in their recent match. It is also why the NZRL president, Howie Tamata, is whinging. This is what he said:

"In regard to the actions of the Australian boys to walk up and get in the New Zealand boys faces, that was really provocative and disrespectful,"

Kiwis slam Aussie juniors' haka response

A maori mate of mine disagrees with him and reckons it was good to see the Aussie response, as in his words: "the Haka is a challenge to the opposition and should be stood up against."

Personally after watching the footage, most of the agression actually comes from the Kiwi boys, not the Aussies.

Here is the video for anyone who missed it.

Wait, it was provocative? FFS that's what the Haka is all about, but don't dare actually provoke back in any way whatsoever!! Get over it, I thought it was a good representation of the sporting rivalry between Aus and NZ, neither one ever wants to back down.

I didn't watch the match or highlights but from what I read I didn't hear of any fights breaking out in the game. If that's the case can Howie Tamata please remove the knot from his Polkadot knickers and be happy the NZ boys won a tight game?

I would be happy to admit it if the Aussie boys did something wrong, but they didn't

Some Kiwis seem to think the Haka is untouchable, like the Kiwis are allowed to intimidate opposition prior to the game, but the opposition is only allowed to watch

It's rubbish

If they want to do the haka, go for it, I actually really like it

But don't complain when the opposition, turns their back, or gets in your face

If he really believes that the players felt disrespected, then he is out of touch with professional athletes.

Good to see the young fellas get up in the Kiwis faces from the start.

I've never thought it fair that the opponents have to sit back and cop the haka and not be able to respond.

I don't think it's passion, they are just stupid kids who probably think it's epic.

This...

The purpose of the haka is intimidation (at least traditionally). So if they can dush it out, they should be avle to take it themselves. And it's not like the Aussies crossed the halfway line

Absolutely nothing wrong with it - great to see two competitive teams going at each other.

What would you rather? This....

@Harry I'd prefer the first one were the photo taken from the other direction.

This one went too far. The ones who pushed it too far were wearing black and white.
It wasn't a good Haka anyway. Starting in a huddle, then a wedge and then got carried away breaking position and pressing their heads against the Aussies.

I prefer a mix of the 2 tbh. The 20's one got a little out of hand obviously, but I have no issue with the Aussies advancing and meeting the "challenge" and I don't see how it's disrespectful.

I don't see any reason the Aussies aren't allowed to stand at the half way line. They had their hands behind each other's backs so it's not like they were being aggressive.

If the Kiwis want to push the boundaries by walking up in to the Australians faces, that's their choice but they're the aggressors in that scenario.

I love a good Hakka.

I'm sorry but where is it in the rule books that we have to sit there and pay attention to or watch the haka. When the players run out on the field, they should be ready to start the game immediately. Let them do their haka in the sheds or if they are so adamant of doing it on the field, blow time on and see how quickly their haka is finished. Australia need to do their own little dance to rival them and stick their tongues out and carry on like idiots like they do

Mate, what the Aussies did was okay in my book, but your rant isn't. It's disrespectful and frankly... borderline xenophobic.

They are taking a shot at us because we walked up to the haka but I cant see anything in the rule book stating we have to watch the haka in the first place. They are there to play football, not dance around. And quite frankly, its embarrassing seeing some of the kiwis do the haka considering they are white as white and its a Maori dance. Should be make all the Aussies do an aboriginal dance to? Would the kiwis stop and watch that as well? You can call me disrespectful if you want but there isn't a god given right that the players are demanded to watch NZ perform the haka at all. Its rather a courtesy than anything. We should just do what whales did to them in the union and make them perform it in the sheds.

The Wallabies tried this tactic about twenty years ago. They went on warming up while the Kiwis did their haka.
After the Aussies got absolutely smashed, they've never tried it again...

So if you don't like their silly little fairy dance you are xenophobic.......that's a pretty stupid thing to say.
