Canterbury's CEO is pushing to have player names written across the back of game day jerseys.

So, what do you guys think?

For some reason people get really upset when a player isn't wearing a jersey matching their position (as if bench players don't already exist).

Remember the carry on when the Kangaroos did it for that one tournament?

Names would be awesome. Not only for the fans, but for the players, especially those on debut etc.

The issue is it reduces the size or gets rid of a sponsor. Storm did it in 99 but had no sponsor to consider and Origin they make the sponsors smaller.

Pros and cons arent there. Super league had them, thought they were pretty successful. But you also open the can on counterfiet version prolifertaing as clubs tune into just how mcuh cash they can bring in with these licensed versions.

I reckon they would be a hit. I bet the US based viewers are tearing their hair out watching these NRL games in Vegas trying to determine who is who? For the purposes of growing the game there - reckon they are a must.

Besides, the youth of today aren't as tribal in their allegiences. They follow names less so than clubs now.

Im sure the sponsors will love it when it comes time for them to pay their sponsorship.
Whilst it seems like a good idea in essence, I doubt clubs are going to want to lose potential sponsorship money because their logos are significantly reduced

That was because they did it in alphabetical order, because Mal was too chicken shit to make a decision between DCE or Cleary for the 7 jersey...

They were pretty tough games to watch though... was hard to tell some positions because players were being played out of position compared to their normal NRL spots
