Hoffman in the halves

All we're doing at the moment is developing Hoffman's ball playing ability for the Bulldogs next season, I'd much rather us use this "Stop-Gap" period to develop another one of our players, one who hasn't asked for a release and is off-contract for 2015. (Kahu comes to mind)

did i miss something ... when did Kahu return from his 1000000th knee injury

Love Campo, his passion and love of the club but he's never been a great organiser and while a long kick never been the most accurate and lacks a short kicking game, many want Cornish to replace him for those reasons plus his reluctance to run which was always his strongest suit.

Contract wise expires end of 2015 though half expect him to retire end of this year.

Hook should give one of your highly thought of youngens a run, IMO if Milf was a junior of yours he still woundnt have debuted with how reluctant Hook is to give a young half a go.

When he is a standout with that type of speed I'm sure he would be playing on the top 17

If Barba was destined to be our 6 I'd have thought he would be the 6 now. Milford will be our 6 if he comes IMO.
Yeah I agree that Milford will be the 6, I just don't know if I agree with that decision being made without trialing the alternative. Both he and Barba are better at the back, but Barba has more experience in the halves, less current form at fullback and takes on the line a lot less.

I too am hoping Cornish gets a run, if not only for my fantasy team :spy:

I'm talking about the big picture for the rest of this season, smart ass. Although, Kahu would probably have more ball playing ability on one leg.

and whos to say that he wont be the 5/8 when he gets back ... I mean for the 4 minutes before he does his knee again

Don't know, strong rumours both Stewarts could head to the Dogs next year, if they do they won't want Hoff anymore.

Justin Hodges has a longer list of injuries than Kahu, we may as well just sack him, right? Not worth the risk.

Gee you will bag anyone so your precious Hoffman remains in the 6 won't you. Get over yourself.

and you'll bag anyone who thinks he just may be the best option right now ... as much as everyone wishes he wasn't. and FTR Kahu isn't a 5/8 either he is a fullback as well.

please tell me you are not comparing Hodges to Kahu. Hodges is a far more important player to our team than Kahu

and tell me where i said we should sack Kahu ... He is not a 5/8 anyway, his best position is fullback, he only trained at 5/8 out of necessity.

It's just the reality of the situation isn't it Foordy?

I think it's safe to say that Foordy, ning (where are you bruv?) and I are the only members willing to tolerate Hoffman's selection for as long as necessary. Speaking purely for myself, while I don't think he's been knocking it out of the park, I do think he's done a fair job given the circumstances and actually offers some positives in the position largely due to his traits as a first grade level competitor.

A lot of the ideas being thrown around on paper are great in theory. You know, I'd like to see the Broncos give Kahu a shot, but only when he's got a game or two under his belt so he's in good knick for first grade. I don't see the sense in rushing him...

The likes of Strasser, Paia'Aua & Nikorima are all potential options but from what I've seen and read, none of them are demanding selection and the Broncos are not at a point where they should consider changes.

This could all change in a little over 24 hours, but I'd rather remain optimistic about our situation than hope for the worst.

I am not even going in to bat for Kahu. Hoffman is the guy for now and he has done a fair job. His own limitations as a player are what hold him back.

It's all a question of whether you believe Hoffman would be demanding selection if he was playing half in ISC, and I don't believe that for a second.

I agree he is doing a fair job under the circumstances, and he is undoubtedly a great competitor, but I don't believe he is the best person for the job, even under the current circumstances.

Having said that, he isn't our biggest worry either, except for his part in the 42 missed tackles against the Eels. That was just abysmal and cannot be accepted or brushed off with a "we didn't turned up on the day" type of cliché!

The only argument for Hoffman as our half is that we don't want to rush in our young halves too early. Hoffman has gone ok but he does hold us back. Sadly it what we are stuck with for now. While Kahu is a fullback he did train in the 6 all summer and can kick off both feet and pass to a better standard than Hoffman. Jury is out as to if he would have been better though.
