Hook a retrospective thought

Good backs, good forwards, it's just our spine that's not premiership standard. That + coaching.

Some good forwards......it's been commented on regularly that they don't bend the opposition line and that they don't "hurt" in defence.

We in fact have been monstered at times by opposition packs.

Our bench isn't strong enough to of premiership winning standard either.

To say Griffin has had a premiership winning pool of talent is stretching it quite a bit IMO.

That's where the bad coaching comes in. I'd be one of the first to admit that we lack someone who can come off the bench and bend the line consistently well, but our pack is still excellent, you just gotta find the method of play that suits us. More ball playing between the forwards, more hole running, whatever.

It's not meant for Griffinball.

I am actually in favour of this move by the club, personally I think Hook just wasn't ready. This is why I asked the question was he possibly put in a role he wasn't ready for and did the broncos really put him in an unfair situation with high expectations, that a rookie top flight coach could not handle. Most NRL coaches do a long apprenticeship, or take gigs in The English Super league before taking on such a role. I look forward to next year and hope that Bennet can get the job done, for me its about the Broncos nothing else, but in saying that one has to give credit when credit is due and Hook took it like a man the other day and earned my respect. His actual game time coaching and strategy at this level is another thing for another thread.

The Broncos backline wasn't considered that red-hot before the start of the season.

Vidot - Was a dud player in an ordinary Dragons outfit.

Reed - Bog average.

Hodges - Has his moments but good luck keeping him on the field, especially around Origin.

Copley - One of the biggest dud backs in the game.

Maranta - THE biggest dud back in the game.

Kahu - Good luck keeping this guy on the field.

Mills - Similar story to Vidot. Struggled to break into an average Sharks backline.

Drew - Who?

Hook did well with a few of them.

I agree on the pack though. On paper, good wouldn't call it great though.

Well, if you go back to before the season, Hoffman was thought to be on the wing, and Barba was supposed to be our key player.
Roosters won with SKD and Minichiello.

Barba had plenty of question marks surrounding him. A lot was made about how poor his 2013 was and his ankle injury. Potentially he could go either way, just depended on him mentally and given Des struggled fair chance basically every other coach would too.

Hoffman was probably considered the most relaible back of the entire lot but you can't build a backline around him.

Mini and SKD were better than certain members of the Broncos squad last year and were surrounded by better talents too.

It did have a red hot winger in Hoffman though.

Of course, we all know how that ended up.

I would really love for him to take control of the NYC team again. He did a great job getting so many of our current team to first grade standard.

He could be invaluable to us as a youth coach, the experience he gained as an NRL coach would be a great asset. ... sadly I don't see it happening.

This is what I would love to see him do. This is were his skills lie and best fit.

@TripleM_NRL: Reports ex-Broncos coach Anthony Griffin is in the mix for Tigers coaching role when the board meets next week - http://t.co/qsllQMlc66 #NRL

Tigers playing Griffinball, now that would be something you'd never thought you'd see.

Good luck to them. It's not like the Tigers can get any worse anyway.

I hope hook does land another job quickly. I like the guy.

Just because he isn't the right coach for the Broncos, doesn't mean he should be banished from the game altogether.

GL, I think he'd be a nice fit for them, they have the talent naturally (Brooks, Tedesco, Moses), they just need to play solid football without taking too many risks (Griffinball)

Hook will do well at another team, he was just too close to the players at the Broncos and struggled to make the tough decisions with a few of them. He can obviously bring young talent up to NRL standard so could be a good fit for the Tiger it will just be a question of if he can take them to another level and if he can stamp his authority on that moron named Farah.

Tigers have future some of the best players in their respective positions, like Woods, Sironen, Noafoluma, Brooks etc. It's hard to **** up coaching that side if you can just hold the ship for a year or two.

I'll be honest, I don't want hook in the NRL next year. The year after I hope he gets a gig and has heaps of success but I don't want him to get a nrl coaching gig before we re-sign hunt.

I can actually picture hunt moving to the tigers to play 5/8 under hook. He and Brooks would be an exciting halves pairing to say the least.

Hook does have an ability to get a lot out of young players. His 50+ win % would have to be an improvement on the tigers record.
