Hooker debate

I feel sorry for Ben Hunt. The Broncos have ****ed him over.

I agree. He was a star under 20's player and was never given a real shot. I'd like to have seen the results had he been given the opportunities Norman and Wallace have had. I think Hunt has some creativity about him which our side clearly lacks.

Thats what irks me Beads at most Hunt has had a handful of games in his most suited position and otherwise off the bench as a replacement for McCullough and where has best football come from during that period? in the few games where his played in the halves regardless of who his playing along with, his development should have been spent in the Queensland Cup after making the step up from the under 20's, given time he would have been suited to be brought in to the halves, instead the coaching staff insisted he be utilised in a role he just wasn't suited for and it blunted not only his usefulness but McCullough's during that time. I don't think too many people would be disappointed to see Hunt in the halves and Wallace moved to hooker or the bench if it gave him the opportunity, we won't see that with the current mentality of she will come right, its only round 3 and our defense will make our attack orgasmic from the Broncos.

Yep they have developed him poorly that is for certain. I'd say it is too late now unless Prince and Wallace get injured.

Prince has been worse than Wallace this year, I would be getting rid of him if anyone.

Wallace has been better than Prince in every game but Wallace cops all the flak.

I think Prince deserves a bit of leeway TBH - he's a new signing, playing with a lot of blokes he's never played with. We also seem to have no discernible attacking gameplan whatsoever, yet everyone is expecting Prince to just come into the team and help us blitzkrieg our opponents.

The issue with Wallace is, he's been here how many years now, and just keeps on churning out the same so-so performances, with his position in the team under absolutely no threat at all. He's been playing and training with this group much longer than Prince has, so surely he should've formed some combinations with them by now?

Prince has had a fairly crappy start, but like I said, he gets the benefit of doubt from me because he hasn't been here as long as everyone else. Maybe he'll play shit for the rest of the season, who knows, but it's far too early to be writing him off, especially when our team is so devoid of creativity and innovation.

Fair point ning.

I'm actually 'ok' with Wallace. For the most part, he's coming up with good fifth tackle kicks (which was virtually the only positive difference we had over the Chooks) and he isn't a liability in defence (well...for the most part).

Aside from a couple touches, Prince has been a complete liability and his rhythmn with the side is completely off. I'd be willing to excuse it, if his form prior had been good...but it hasn't for years now.

Pretty much the way I see it BP. Wallace is not playing great but he's still a solid option, he's enthusiastic gives it 100% every game, has a reasonably good kicking game, always one of the first in a kick chase and is a good defender. Honestly the way our attack is structured now I don't know if I should blame the halves, the quality of the players or the coach. The way we played against the Rooster I don't even think Thurston would have been able to set anything up.

Certainly couldn't do anything tonight could he, JT?

There were a host of problems on Saturday in both attack and defence. I completely understand why fans are lashing out the way they are. The positive is that we were only beaten by 8. The players are still putting in, but the old adage of work smarter not tougher needs to shine through for us to finish on the right side of a 24 game season.

What a load of cobblers. Every NRL player should be able to play the 80. We are half crippled with 2 bloody hookers on the bench

You can call it a load of cobblers all you want, not going to change the fact he can't play 80 mins yet. He's looking a lot more likely to be able to do it this year though. Even Griffin said in a year or two he should be right to play the full 80, but isn't up for it yet. A lot of games last year he looked exhausted. I would tend to believe Griffin more than you.

From the little time he's played, or been in the hooker position Wallace has looked a lot better and probably our best. But you couldn't say for certain until he played a few games there. I can't ever see them putting him there though. Thing is he's already at the stage to play the full 80 and he offers everything Macca does with faster service.

Except when he drills his long kicks to the fullback on the full. **** that annoys me.

But I would call him earning us a few repeat sets good.

Which is more than what you can say for the other playmakers on the night.
