How to beat the Broncos

Kevin Walters:

"Speaking on NRL 360 on Wednesday night, Broncos assistant coach Kevin Walters revealed that the team had addressed their inability to restrict the metres made by opposition teams through the middle of the field.

Ben Hunt:

"It's something that a lot of teams have been doing against us the last couple of months," Hunt said. "They've been rolling up the field way too easy and in the finals it's all about field position and completion rates and defending well.
"We've got to lock some teams in their own half to get some field position."

At last... so much for the stupid "wait for them to come us" defensive mentality

Pretty much this..

It just seems self evident to me - field position in attack and defence is everything, especially in finals footie.

Why make it easier for the opposition to get repeat sets, tire out defenders and risk errors, especially against really quick players on the edges and out wide ... say Jennings or RTS. The last thing I want is to see is them running 10m out at tired defenders.

It might have worked during the season, but finals are literally a different ball game - much faster, more brutal, more exhausting.

If it works against the Roosters, will people stop bringing it up?

It's been working all year, and it worked against a top team in the finals, but obviously people aren't going to be happy until it works against the Roosters in a final.

Not just the Roosters. Anyway, the Cowboys were not full strength with Morgan only 70% there in his first game back and he is for mine essential to the Cows winning. He and Thurston, at their best, are deadly. Against us, they weren't. I think those two will destroy the Sharks.

What works during the regular season imo is not of itself enough in finals footie. The game goes up another whole level, and for mine, Kevvie and Hunt seem to recognise that - we can't afford to play and expect to win finals footie with relatively minimal possession and mostly in our own half, or rather on our line.

I know what subject I'll be giving my vote for "2015 Broken Record Topic'

If only we'd played Milford at fullback we wouldn't have had to let Josh Hoffman go. Well done Wayne, your attachment to Darius has cost us yet another gun player.
