If Hunt leaves - Hodges to FB?

C'mon guys! Can we seriously use the argument, "Hodges has only played a handful of games at FB"?

*cough* Lockyer from 1 to 6 *cough*

I think Hodges to fullback is a very viable and somewhat mouthwatering proposal.

The big hole I see in the theory is we have nobody to cover centres, which means we are strengthening one position to weaken another which is a big no in anyone's language.

When I said Hodges has only played a handful of games I was using in the context of Hoffman's inexperience.

I got no doubt that Hodges can play fullback but I think it would be better for us in the long term to play Hoffman there.

Folau at fullback I think the worlds gone crazy!!!
He was pretty good when he played there for Melbourne for 10 games and now he's a lot more experienced. I don't see what's crazy about it, with an off season of training he could go very well although I would certainly prefer hodges at the back with Folau at right centre but needs to work on his defence big time at centre. Although I think team shouuld be left the same with Hoffman just coming in.

I think Folau would be just too slow... I am a massive fan of Hunts but his weakness is his lack of pace. I would love to have someone with pace at fullback at the Broncos... It would be awesome to get Kemp back but I can't see that happening. I think Beale is the one who would be the best at fullback for the Broncos.

I don't remember Folau ever playing fullback at the Storm.

Nor do I as I say I think old mate has gone crazy.

Yeah I don't recall him playing fullback at the Storm but he played the majority of his junior football in the #1 Jersey.

I wouldn't write it off as an option eusa_think

Really??? I could of sworn he played about 10 games there, it was about the same time that he was goal kicking for those few weeks??? Or am I imagining things and thinking of Inglis playing back there lol.

I'm not condoning a move to FB for Hodges, I was just devil's advocating that it isn't crazy.

I am a staunch believer that you never weaken one position to strengthen another.

Josh Hoffman looked good on Friday night, very good for someone who's only played 3 first grade games now. I would leave Hodges at centre for sure.

Personally, I wouldn't do it UNLESS it was going to be long term thee years. (To try and get than premiership with Locky still here)

Seriously, the way I see it the Broncos have or 'had' one more premiership under Locky. I've been preaching this for years I know. Whether 08 was the year it should have been we shall see.

I guess what I'm trying to say is - Can it get us that premiership I'm talking about? Or do we need him in the centres?

That's what I'm asking. Without being crude, let's talking about a premiership we can achieve - clearly we need Hodges there but where?

Hoffman is going to struggle big time in the NRL if he doesn't learn an aerial game IMO

He is young, and that part of his game needs some work. but the kid has talent and potential and i really rate him

Oh no, it was his first game this season and the games most experienced player beat him in the air. He must be really shit under the high ball.

Bit early to assume he's terrible at dealing with aerial raids.

In saying that - It took hunt about 2 years to become the player he is - and that's cause he was surrounded by the likes of Webcke, Tallis, TC etc etc.
Assuming Hoffman is no Khunt - do we really want to wait 2 or 3 years for an established FB? I say let's have a crack at the title - but it depends without Hunt I'm not so sure - ..... meh. I'm on the fence for now. Convince me.

Having Webcke, Tallis and TC around did absolutely squat for Hunt's high ball work. That was simply a lot of hard work - and much of it working with Darren Lockyer who I don't think anyone's forgotten is probably the best fullback of all time.

Lockyer can still give Hoffman pointers early in his career, and then there's Folau, probably the best high ball fielder in the game.

Why do some people expect teenage players to come in with all the skills required to be an NRL champion? Give them time! If we buy an experienced player in every position that becomes available we'll be as bad as the Bulldogs.

Beale is a better prospect than Hoffman IMO.... I'd be happy to see either go well though but I'd prefer Beale to be our number 1 next season.

Beale strikes me more as a centre then a fullback.
