OFFICIAL Ikin to depart Broncos

Scanlan is doing the job, nothing will change, maybe someone gets a promotion to footy manager, that’s about it. Doubt anyone will even notice.

Couldn't form an opinion on him in his latest career iteration, either way. But he was my designated whipping boy when he played in the halves for us (I always seem to have one). Was nothing special as a player despite how he might look on paper to those who never saw him play. But he was good enough to win us a premiership, so what would I know?

Good luck to him. This won't be the last we see of Ben Ikin.
I think Kev and the Boys won despite Ikin. He drove me crazy lol.

The only issue I have is if Ikin was forced out we will have lost any favour with Kent. His broncos coverage from here on in will indicate on what terms ben left on….whether he is vitriolic towards us will be the clue.

The bloke is a flog and uses his tv show for hisa personal agendas.

I disagree.

no matter what terms Ikin left on the he'll be vitriolic towards us.

Kent hates us, has always hated us and the only reason he has been slightly softer towards us is because his mate was at the club. with his mate gone any cease fire that was in play will be well and truly over

One step closer to Wayne returning in 2025 as a football manager or development coach or something

Wayne will be the coach of next new team.......................at Captain Vlando's insistence.

The Queensland Rugby League board has today appointed Ben Ikin as chief executive officer.

Ikin brings a wealth of rugby league knowledge to the position, having fulfilled numerous roles at community, state and national league level following his retirement as an elite player who represented both Queensland and Australia.

A former Fox Sports presenter, Ikin is a respected rugby league figure who is passionate about delivering game models, competitions and pathways that drive growth and engagement.

While previously serving as an independent director on the QRL board, Ikin led the Pathways and Performance Committee and was instrumental in the implementation of the National Player Development Framework.

In June 2021, Ikin stepped down from the QRL board and Fox Sports to pursue a new career opportunity with the Brisbane Broncos in the National Rugby League.

Ikin has now finished up with the Broncos and will commence the CEO role with the QRL on Monday, May 22, the same day the Queensland men’s State of Origin team is announced.

QRL chairman Bruce Hatcher said Ikin would deliver outstanding leadership to rugby league in Queensland.

“Ben brings an immense amount of rugby league knowledge with him and is widely respected in the game,” Hatcher said.

“Part of our role in the game is from community rugby league to sub-elite, which is the Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership, and the significant contribution our clubs make to the NRL and NRLW.

“Ben has a thorough understanding of our people and these competitions and pathways, and knows what is needed for rugby league to grow and prosper in the years to come.”

Ikin said it was a privilege to have the opportunity to lead the QRL.

“It’s a great honour to be given this role,” Ikin said.

“The QRL has a very long, proud history and is responsible for a very important part of rugby league across the state.

“I look forward to working with our staff and stakeholders to ensure that the way we do things in Queensland is both preserved and respected.”

Prior to embarking on a highly successful career in the media, Ikin played 150 NRL games from 1995-2004 for the Gold Coast Seagulls, North Sydney Bears and Brisbane Broncos.

He was a key member of the Broncos’ premiership-winning team that defeated the Sydney Roosters in the 2000 grand final.

A passionate Queenslander who started his league journey in the Gold Coast junior ranks, Ikin famously became the youngest player in State of Origin history when he was chosen for the Maroons during the 1995 season.

He went onto make 17 State of Origin appearances for Queensland and played two Tests for the Kangaroos.

Ikin has also been an assistant coach in the Hostplus Cup with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls, and has served on the board of the North Queensland Cowboys.

I hope Ben is in this role for as long as DD is with us and when DD steps down I'd love Benny boy to take over at the Broncs as the new CEO. I wish him every success with the QRL gig. Any sort of progress he initiates that help us beat the cockroaches is more than welcome.

I’m aware that this hasn’t worked this time around but, we can just hope Karl Morris to foock off to cockroach land so that DD can replace him & Ikin can comeback to us as CEO.

Isn't DD younger than Ikin? Hopefully DD is at the club until he retires sometime in the 2050s.

The position is only worth $70,000 a year that's why they are always rich men that don't need the pay.

Dave is not doing it.

Ikins still going to be playing a role at Broncos in a way.
Our emerging talent and depth players will be coming through QRL systems so if their in good hands it helps us out.

Expect the slightest issue to be blown completely out of proportion from here on out.

Don't hold out on us, ARE WE IN A CRISIS AT THE MOMENT???

Actually on the radio last week someone said "They just got thumped by the Rabbitohs and their best player is getting headhunted by Union, are they in serious trouble???". The media are fucking gagging for something for them to hold up as a Crisis scoop.

The picture the QRL used is very appropriate for Benny boy:

I shouldn't find it as funny as I do

I thought I'd quickly turn in NRL 360 to see what they said about this, and it was actually fairly tame ... along the lines of too bad it didn't work out, but the QRL role will suit him.

Although Kent did give the credit for turning the club around to Ikin. He said, and I quote, "I think he has done pretty well. When he arrived they were last, when he left they are first"

Factual though
