Indigenous All Stars vs NRL All Stars - Match Thread + Post Match Discussion

Just watched the recording and quite surprised at the "intencity" it was played. Actually enjoyed the second half when the errors were down, liked the tackled count reset, hated the power play, and most of all, loved seing the Broncos players coming pretty much unscathed!

It was quite a good game. Inglis looked as fit as I have seen him.

Gave the game another watch.

Ultimately I think the game is compromised by unlimited interchanges. The game is supposed to be the exhibition attacking show piece but really the bulk of the points come from the amount of (absurd) repeat sets or just extremely arsey plays that weren't too exciting to watch.

It's an unfortunate situation to be in, but I don't think the game will ever truly get to showcase the likes of Hodges, Barba, JT, Sandow and co. who enjoy facing a tiring defensive line.

As for the game itself, it was OK. Some fun passages, some nice shots and it was good to watch some Rugby League again. The new rules were hit and miss. The repeat sets is a good idea theory but certainly needs some tweaking. I don't think half the things they penalised were worth a repeat set and it felt like they were trying to play touch footy. Powerplays are just too gimmicky. I can understand the idea of trying to counter-act the effects of unlimited interchanges but it was just too confusing.

Was reasonably happy with the Broncos boys. They didn't exactly stand out or anything but they didn't let themselves down.

JT would have been my MotM.

It is an exhibition match so unlimited interchanges are definitely the way to go

Sam looked in good touch cant wait to see him play for us this year! agree JT was a standout and MOTM for me too. Merritt? Butchered a try & the 2 he did get were gimme's.

I thought Yow Yeh played pretty well and was strong in defense, which is defenitely what he needed to work on.

Hodgo looked to move freely. I didn't get that awkward feeling that he was going to break everytime he took a run like I did last year.

Jack Reed was his usual self. He had a tough time with Inglis on the opposite side of the field he's used to, but did a fairly good job, despite his "lack of speed".

Thaiday played prop during most of the game, where his impact is definitely not the same as when he hits the fringes, and did what was asked of him.

I thought Dugan was dangerous out the back for the NRL All-Stars. I also think Cooper played much better than Prince and is leading for the vacant halves spot in the Qld team.

Highlight for me was channel 9 showing shots of Greg Bird and Greg Inglis during the indigenous ladies pre game speech when she was talking about domestic violence. Wonder if it was just a coincidence or not?

No, they stuffed up. They should've been onscreen when they were talking about self harm.
