Jack Bird Discussion

100k you match for a player of his calibre. I'm pretty sure we would have done the exact same with Hunt if we were anywhere near the dragons offer to begin with

From what I understand we were on the same if not similar money to the DragQueens but would not match the 5/6 year term

Pfff, Roosters are not a one city team and have no problems securing TPA's. There is reason why Sharks played without a major sponsor for a few seasons and it has nothing to do with not being a one city team.

No doubt it has to do with some how clubs are run but everybody knows that there is some teams that have the benefit of a shipload of TPA's. One team towns and a few of the strong sydney clubs like the Dogs and Roosters get more opportunities than other clubs. It is that simple. Can't deny it. Certainly hasn't helped us or the dogs with premierships.

Don't you support the Storm?

Don't you support the Storm?

Why the **** would I support them. One flog on here accused me of that when I first joined because I wasn't having a go at someone for criticising referees when we played Melbourne. I guess you can't be subjective as a supporter.

Just the way you post sometimes makes you seem like you're trolling very slightly. And yeah you popped up around the time we played the Storm. Theres being subjective and then theres saying stuff like 'third party deals for the win' which no real supporter would actually say.

I don't like this signing.

The best example we have in the NRL of two running / opportunistic halves in the NRL is the Bulldogs with Reynolds & Mbye. And their combination is completely shithouse. Both of those players would play a lot better with a controlling half beside them, in fact they've gone a whole lot better with Mbye, the more talented of the two, out.

And if no promises have been made as to his position, and he's likely to end up in the centres, does that mean Bennett thinks Roberts won't be with us long term? Can we even afford him? He'd be genuinely worth $600k on the open market, maybe more.
I'm in the same boat. This has nothing to do with Bird's value as a player. He's a great get without a doubt, and we get a replacement for Hunt who's younger, cheaper and has similar qualities.
The problem is that without a controlling half, I can't see the Broncos being as good as we could be, unless there's a plan to still get a halfback, move either Milf or Bird to Fullback and Boyd to centre... in which case it could be a master stroke.

I can see the argument but LOL Mbye, the player so good Bulldogs fans were excited to have Matt Frawley replace him and praying for him to remain.

Differing amounts and differing lengths of the actual contract, hardly surprising given how quickly every story changes about this.

its still early and whispers are flying, but news around suggests joffa may end up in parra, fai will potentially go as well in search of game time, arrow is tossing up an extension or permanent gig elsewhere. biggest impact i see is ese'ese and carrigan. these 2 are the real future but i think we will lose both. we have paid big money for haas in front of our own kids which hurts. storm are watching carrigan very closely. and plenty of clubs are looking at ese'ese.
if the numbers are correct bird will chew up 8% of our cap and if milford sings for an estimated $900k that is nearly 20% of our cap there. this is very un bronco like.
This is the kind of thing that keeps me up at night, and is why I'm not 100 percent sold on Bird.

Do you think we can get this right @talanoa? We've just re-signed Glenn which imo opinion is a poor call considering who we have coming through.
Could this be the last year for Blair or Thaiday?

Then we have Oates wanting to move into the back row for all reports and pressure to get Sua or Pangai more time on the field. Arrow requires big minutes. Sims is signed on for another year I think.

Is Lodge the right option for the club?

I was that flog, and I stand by that statement.

Hasn't it been stated several times by several different sources that we are still looking for halfback? I'm not sure why people are treating this signing like it cancels that out...

Channel 7 down here whinging. Claims we poached Bird and are giving him $1M/yr.

At least they admitted he has family up here.
