JACK Reed will this morning announce his retirement from the National Rugby League.

The Broncos’ centre has been forced to hang up the boots due to complications from a serious shoulder injury he suffered this year.

Despite surgery and intensive rehabilitation attempts since then, it has become apparent that his shoulder will never recover sufficiently to enable him play rugby league again.

As a result, Jack has accepted the advice from his medical team that he has suffered a career-ending injury, and has made the difficult decision to retire from the game, effective immediately.

Reed, who has played 126 NRL games for the Broncos also played five Tests for the country of his birth, England, and was an NRL All Star in 2012.

“It is a disappointing end for Jack but he can be very proud of what he has been able to achieve in his six years at the Broncos,” said chief executive Paul White.

“He came to us on the chance of a pre-season and in one year went from being a Queensland Cup player to a Test representative.

“He also played in an NRL grand final last year.

“We thank Jack for his efforts, and wish him and his lovely young family all the best for the future.”

he polarised broncos fans but he always gave everything he could for the team. good luck to ya mate.

Thanks for your loyal service Reedy. He never shirked his responsibility and always gave 110% for the jumper. That's the only thing a true fan can ask of the players

Agreed, he may not have the most gifted or talented player but you can't deny him putting his all in for the side and his team mates, I wish him the best for the future and will remember him for his part in taking us to the Grand Final last season.

Thanks for everything Jack. Always gave his all and there are a hell of a lot of players that could learn something from him. Despite what many would have you believe he was a quality centre. Always copped more shit than he deserved and a fair few people will need to find another punching back now.

Shame. Got a lot of criticism because he played injured imo, which hurt his game. Deserved a better way to go out, good luck Jack!

Good team man whose highlight reel will be better than most people expect. I argued in the off season that we should keep Copley and get rid of Reed because I thought the writing was on the wall with his shoulders and sadly that's how it turned out. In the end he probably gave more than he should have to the club.
When I was in my late teens I was diagnosed with a juvenile onset form of chronic arthritis and over the last 30 years it has affected every joint in my body. I can say with some authority that arthritis in the shoulder is the most painful. He is in for a lifetime of chronic pain, interrupted sleep and will be unable to do many things other people take for granted. That's a heavy price to pay for such a short career. Good luck Jack.

In Opacic, we have found a far better replacement than Copley would ever have been. We made the right call in getting rid of that butter hands idiot.

I like Opacic so am not unhappy we got rid of Copley now. I was really just making the point that while I did call for Reed to go it wasn't because I didn't rate him. I just didn't see a long term future in the game for him.

Not just butter hands, but can the fucking guy fix his tackling technique? How many times has he been knocked out because of that?

I actually made a highlight reel of Reed.

His time from 2011-2015.

He was a better player than what people thought.

It was better than Copley's..

As I said once before, guys like him deserve premierships and it's a shame he will never win one.

He always put his body on the line, for the jersey, for the club, for his mates and gave his all out on the field.

Whether you love him or hate him, doubt his playing ability, you could never doubt his commitment to the jersey and the club.

He never once stopped trying out there on the field.

Good luck in the future, Jack.

Have you posted it previously? I'd love to watch it. He did some great stuff in those early seasons.

Absoultely shatter for Reedie, hes family an hes team mates. What awful news to wake up to this morning, particular, with the big game on Friday. I think many of us were secretly hoping for some kinda miracle an Jack would run out in hes much love centre position against the Tits an do what he does best.

If there is a bright side I guess, at least he went out doin some thing that he love.

Thanks for the memory ,Jack.

Might I suggest a matching tribute tattoo to go alongside Jimmy the Jet?

Pipe dream, but if we do go all the way this year he'd still get a ring, wouldn't he?

So long Jack. I've been amongst his detractors but you can't ever fault his commitment to the jersey and his team mates.

Loved the highlights package! Remember the good old days when we competed in the air for kicks.
