Jake Friend Arrested For Drink Driving

I just finished reading this article just before you posted it.

Fucking young players need to pull their head in. Rip up his contract.

Make an example of this dumb prick. De-register him.

Would you say the same if it was Lockyer?

This is obvious very dumb, but from what I have heard he was drinking with the entire Roosters team just before this happened. If that is the case, one has to question why the club or the senior players didn't look out for Friend. In no way am I saying it's not Friend's fault, because clearly it is, but surely the club could have played a bigger part in ensuring his safety (both in terms of the law and physically, as he surely must have been endangering himself if he was that drunk).

Oh no, they're not church boys. Kids aren't allowed to make mistakes anymore are they? You high and mighty's!

Drink driving is a pretty unforgivable mistake IMO.

Ari is right though, you'd think the club would have had the presence of mind to prevent something like this happening considering it was their function.

Drinking, forgivable and acceptable (in moderation).
Getting shitfaced and can't remember what happened, forgivable but stupid.
Getting drunk and driving, unforgivable.

I hope Brad Fittler tells him the story of Ben Alexander......

while hes at it show him the photos of bens accident.

Well I'm glad I'm not in your guys circle where you can't forgive someone a mistake. This bloke is hardly a first grader, he's not the face of the game. He's learning the ropes. Who gives a rats? Pfft.

Are you serious? Have you seen first hand the worst outcomes of drink driving? It completely destroys people's lives and usually the lives destroyed are the innocent victims not the idiot doing the drink driving. In this day and age there is absolutely no excuse for drink driving - whether you are a footballer, plumber, dole-bludger whatever.

Not sure I agree with the calls to de-register him, though I think at least some of those comments were a bit tongue in cheek, but definitely some penalty. I do think the Roosters have a case to answer - same as Manly in the Stewart and Watmough incidents, they have to take SOME responsibility for allowing the players to get so drunk, although the ultimate responsibility lies with the individual.

Who gives a rat?

Tell that to all the people who have lost loved ones because of dickheads like him.

Tell that to Greg Alexander who was arguably one of the game's best players and who never really got back to it after his brother died in a drink driving accident. It's not just the people directly involved that get hurt, it's everyone around you.

To say you don't give a rats? That's fucked.
Broncos sacked Nev Costigan for low level drink driving.

Yeah I know that Rock. I'd probably not be able to forgive a person for speeding and killing a family member, hell I'd probably not be able to forgive them if they were sneezing and obeying the letter of the law.

But I'm just saying that what happenned to clubs protecting their players from the media. What happenned to 3 strikes you're out? Don't tell me you don't know anyone who's made that same mistake before.

And at the risk of opening myself up to character attacks, but only because you've asked, yes a very good friend of mine who i played softball with for years's 19year old son was killed on albany creek road in a drink driving accident 2 years ago. So yes, I've seen first hand the impact of that decision.

I'm not condoning his actions, I'm just saving give the kid a break! Let him go through the courts, be suspended for a few NRL matches and suffer the usual consequences that you and I would if we got done for a similar offence.

Lol at anyone who defends him.
He should be sacked, simple.

I'm not defending his drink driving actions, the full letter of the law needs to be thrown at him. I just want to know why clubs aren't protecting their players.

This young bloke made a mistake, and he shouldn't have it all over the papers, the media needs to back off.

The media will never back off. It wouldn't matter if the club tried to silence it, the media get their news direct from the cops...they can easily match up names with public identities.
