Jarred Hayne free to play

Exactly he had EVERY opportunity to pull out of it. A guy who is lauded week after week for his freakish ability, agility, balance etc etc etc could have avoided sliding in with his knees - the try was scored before he slid. Additionally, his eyes were never on the ball from the vision I've seen.

Seriously I wonder if Gibbs and Merritt could sue the judiciary for their obvious double standards. And IMO the Gibbs one on Burt wasn't as bad as this one from Hayne.

I also think the Smith situation last year and the subsequent thrashing Melbourne got with him out may have also contributed to the very low grading to ensure there wasn't a repeat with one of the star players missing the game and their team losing.

I tell you one thing - this decision has set a very dangerous precedent for next season.

But yeah, at least there won't be any excuses.

But this is a flaw with our judiciary - there is no precedent in our judiciary, for some reason

However, I agree, as I want Parra to win, and it should be good for the spectacle - lets hope he does it again in the last few minutes after the Eels have wrapped the game up - makes the judiciary look stupid - Hayne and Slater could have a competition to see who does more damage - Hayne leading with his knees or Slater leading (& stomping) with his feet

He got graded, he had no carry over points so he didn't miss a game. If he'd have had the carry over points that cam smith had, he would have missed a game.

I don't see the big deal????! It's not like he got away with it. Now he's got those points hanging over his head.

It's the points system that's ridiculous!

I'm disappointed carry over points only last 12 months, yet loading goes for 2 years! Carryover points and load period should be matched.

Hayne had carryover points for his spear tackle on Carroll last year, but they expired.

i heard he had 20 carry over points got charged 100 points then got a 25% discount for a good record.

No, he got a 20% loading for a "non-similar" offence in the last 2 years (the dangerous throw).

So:

Base penalty: 100 points
Loading: 20 points
Carry over points: 0
Total penalty: 120 points
Discount for early plea (25%): 30 points
Total: 90 points

which is where the dodginess comes into it.....he got charged, which is good, but all this loading and points and this and that it's so confusing.

My thinking is that each "incident" should be charged on it's own merit. I think at the beginning of each season a player should get a clean slate....look at Justin Hodges, he has to look at a player the wrong way and he's sitting on his butt for 6 weeks. It's not really fair imo. [icon_shru

It'd still happen. He'd front the judiciary and they'd go "oh, it's you again...what you here for this time? Oh, you sneezed on the ref. 4 weeks".

And then Darren Lockyer walks in. "My god, Darren, what are you doing here?" "Oh, got a bit fired up and deliberately knocked Slater's head off...they're still finding teeth in the grass." "Ah well, you're a good bloke, no penalty".

The worst thing about the "pre-points" judiciary was that it was run by former players...and they empathised with those being charged. I guarantee you NOBODY would be suspended before a Grand Final or Origin if it were back to that scenario. Unless they're a Bronco or Queenslander of course.

The points system and loading is fine, the problem is the video review committee. Look at this case, and McCallum went out of his way to find something that was different about it compared to Merritt and Gibbs so he could justify a grade 1 vs a grade 2.

Yes the points system is ridiculous but also the level of gradings. IMO, this incident should have received a higher grading - 2 or 3 - in the first place. In which case carry over points or no carry over points, loading or no loading, discount for early guilty plea or not - he would have missed games because the base penalty would have been higher.

Do you really think he's going to be concerned about the points hanging over his head and learn his lesson? He could easily do something deliberately minor early in the new season and cop a 1 match ban for a relatively minor game to get rid of the points.

Oh - and don't think they didn't calculate this on 'purpose' beforehand. _woohoo_
There is NOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYY they didn't right???

Honestly though, I'm glad his playing but it just really shows:

1) Sydney media are **************** of the highest order - and without a doubt there is double standards. (But that is life IMO)
2) Judiciary system is a JOKE. I don't see any argument against this.

Agree on all points - of course they worked it out beforehand, actually the media worked it out for them. All day on the radio and TV the sydney media were going on about how if he got no more than grade 1 he'd be clear to play.

I'm sure it'll work out in the end when Jarryd and Billy out-Cantona each other in the 5th minute and both leave the field with broken jaws.

I thought it was an absolute joke. Definitely shoudl have been more than a grade one, they would hav ewent with that knowing he would be free to play with a guilty plea. He's a good player (yes only a good player, not a great one) but i think he's a wanker.
