Jaryd Hayne

That is the thing about the RL community - outlandish statements get thrown around everywhere.

They sure do. I remember when people were saying such outlandish things as 'Shane Perry is a great player', and 'Stu Kelly gives his 100%, he deserves his spot in first grade'.

I think Steve Michaels was in better form last year before his injury than what Hayne is right now.

Mate, Michaels was in form last year but he was nowhere near the form Hayne is in.

Surely you're joking?

He is a certainty to win the Dally M he has been man of the match at least 6 times in the last 10 weeks, he is playing the most consistently dominant game of anyone I have probably ever seen. While guys like Johns and Lockyer are great week after week when in form, Hayne is single-handedly demolishing sides with freakish plays to go along with 40/20's and line breaks from kick returns. It is without doubt the best purple patch I have ever seen one player be in.

I to agree with Hayne being in red hot form, but I don't think he will win the Dally M this year. I think Parra's early season form may let him down and thus the Dally M will be going to Jamie Soward

Wasn't thurston 5 points clear of the rest of the compeition when voting went behind closed doors about a month ago though? From memory Soward was about 6-7 points off the pace at that stage. Apart from the Broncos v Dragons game (where I doubt Soward would have picked up any points), I haven't seen many Dragons of Cowboys games, so am not sure how close it would be now though. I suspect it will come down to the wire though.

I hope Soward wins though, as I put some money on him when he was quite an outsider.

Agree Beale. Since you get points every week, and the points usually go to players on the winning team, the Eels shit start to the year (And Hayne's for that matter) will count against him.

I'm sure I heard someone on Monday night footy say the other day that when voting went behind closed doors, Hayne was only about 6 points off the lead. If that's the case, I can't see anyone beating him.

Only 6 off the lead? Yep, he's home. Him and Soward were about even then, and Hayne has blitzed Soward. Thurston was 5 in front of him and The Cowboys have been scratchy since then. Unless Thurston gets 6 points in the next 2 weeks (and Hayne none) then I doubt anyone will beat Hayne.

i think Watmough will be his main threat

Voting went secret in Round 16. Thurston had 20, Soward 12, Hayne 10.

By my reckoning Thurston 3pts vs Sharks, 2pts v Titans, possibly 1pt vs Knights or Dogs, so he's on 26. I don't think he loses any points for the kicking charge as he didn't miss any weeks.

Dragons voting is hard to gauge but Soward would have had at least 4 MOTM performances in that time, so he's on circa 24.

Hayne, at worst he's on 25, probably more like 28. Dragons v Eels last round, the voting in that game could well decide it.

For what it's worth, Hayne scored some points in Origin that don't count due to the Eels having the bye the week prior, which could prove a little controversial, particularly given it means some Origin players end up with less scoring opportunities (I'm pretty sure Gidley was one of them)

I think it was Gary Freeman who said it, so I should have known to take it with a grain of salt!

Maybe he was counting the points that Hayne scored that don't actually count toward his tally?

I don't think Soward will win. His performances don't see to rack up the votes the way they do for Thurston. Creagh would take a lot of them.

Hindmarsh nicks a couple and often gets the maximum vote, so if some of Hayne's supposed 3 points are 2 points then he's significantly less likely but I can't see how he doesn't get full votes.

Now if I counted correctly on Thurston's votes since they went secret, he's polled 10 times, 7 of them 3 points. The only player who has taken full votes instead of JT when the Cowboys have won this year are Bowen, Payne and O'Donnell. Bowen and Payne are out, and Cowboys have the Roosters in the last round, so you'd think Thurston finishes on 29, more if they actually beat us tomorrow night but that wont happen.

Hayne really only needs 1 more maximum vote getting game to win IMO. But he'd want to do it this week as the Dragons game is not one where polling will be easy.
