Jayden Nikorima to Sydney Roosters on 3 year deal

Surely we wouldn't have been paying them much so it's not going to save us alot for next year's cap. Maybe Bennett is looking at a different signing for next year and he's clearing the deck... Ingis rumour is still wagging its ugly head!

Boooo-Urns.

I can't profess to seeing much of Jayden but he seems highly rated. I had thought losing Parcell/Taylor a costly but necessary concession to hold onto both Nikorima brothers.

Consider me dissapointed if this pans out as reported.

The rorters are honestly the most parasitic club in the country (out of any sporting code). They are propped up entirely by billionaire fans, have a bottomless cap, churn out pathetic crowds even after winning a premiership, have virtually no junior program, and pillage other clubs promising juniors and then claim that they developed them when they become stars.

I still think losing Maloney will hurt them more than most think next year though, he makes Pearce look good in attack. Saying that, they probably have some spare change lying around to snap up GI to replace RTS, and Dan Carter after the WC.

The Roosters are offering him $660K over 3 years.

Only the Roosters.

I don't understand this signing from the Roosters.

OK, so they lost James Maloney. That's a fairly big loss, especially since Maloney has been able to put behind a slow start to become one of the better five eighths in 2015. However, don't they already have two of the better five eighths coming through?

Jackson Hastings is considered by most judges, one of, if not THE best half coming through. While I have my own personal opinions, I certainly think he's got something to offer and it's only a matter of time before he starts making an impact at the top level. Now, the Roosters weren't the only club to recognise Hastings' efforts. In fact, he wasn't originally a Rooster to begin with. He was actually a Dragon, playing NYC at Fullback in 2013 as a 17 year old whiz kid. He was lured over with promises of opportunity and the ability to represent the club his father did. While sentimentality can cover a lot of costs, I don't think the Roosters necessarily bought him over on the cheap and considering clubs were circling him earlier in the season when the Roosters were deciding which half to keep, I think it's safe to say they had to spend a pretty penny just to keep him.

Then there's Ryan Matterson, the current Wentworthville Magpies five eighth & Parramatta squad member. In 2014, Matterson represented the Junior Kangaroos, which was an acknowledgement of his abilities as a player. However, before coach Arthur could give Matterson an opportunity in first grade, he somehow scored the biggest coup of his coaching career by signing Kieran Foran. That meant that any opportunity for young Ryan vanished...

So onto the free market Ryan goes! One of the best five eighths coming through the grades, surely somebody will throw him some coin? Well, if we're to believe the Roosters, that couldn't have been the case and Matterson will be lucky to be on second tier payments. Hopefully Ryan has an escape clause handy - word is Manly are on the look-out for a five eighth.

But wait, there's more! While I've spoken about the number of past NYC players coming through, I haven't touched on Connor Watson, the latest break-out star (not named Latrell Mitchell) at the Roosters. Watson is a highly skilled running five eighth, in a similar mould to your Blake Austins, who has been right up there as the best and is considered to have some sort of future at the club. Will it be at five eighth? Maybe not to begin with, but I'm sure there were plenty of other clubs willing to give him five eighth wages, are we to believe he turned them down for a nothing contract to stay at the Chooks?

Let's recap...

If this signing is true, that means that in 2015 the Roosters will have...

Jayden Nikorima
Jackson Hastings
Ryan Matterson
Connor Watson

On their books. 3 of them considered the pick of the bunch in their respective age groups, while another has emerged as one of the picks of the bunch.

That's a lot of stockpiling of young talent. Surely they've invested a fair bit of coin into them as well, so at least 3/4 have to get a shot somewhere? Won't that have reprecussions on the rest of the side? Doesn't the buck have to stop somewhere?

What kind of dire straits must our salary cap be in that we couldn't keep one of either Parcell, Taylor or Nikorima?

I just don't get it.

And the Roosters unlimited cap? They're just taking the piss now offering that sort of coin to a rookie like it's no big thang...

If I read it correctly, it sounds like he'll only get that much IF he plays first grade.

Fox sports saying it's not a done deal yet. He's talking to the Broncos again next week and we will try match the offer from the Rooters ☺... He doesn't really want to go but staying here, he doesn't see himself playing Nrl next year.

IMO, Jayden is a better player than Kodi... And if he stays he could eventually take Kodi's place as our bench utility ... Maybe as early as next year.

Losing Taylor, JNik and Parcell all at once would be absolutely disgusting management.

I agree with Pete in that the signing doesn't make sense (assuming JNik is a fullback or half...or maybe hooker). But when you obviously have extra salary cap space advantage over others you might as well go for the best talent.

We can't keep these guys because they want to play first grade and we can't fit them in our top 17. The only way they get in is by injury and I don't want hunt, Milf or Macca to get injured at all. Best case scenario, they go away, learn some new tricks and come back to use in a few years.

You may not be able to keep them all .... But ****, can't we at least find a way to keep some ...

I'm guessing he's going to end up being a fullback, so he's got Wayne Jr in his way here.

Do you really think that? Or are you just trying to stir people up, because nothing about his recent development suggests fullback.

If he 's purely chasing coin at this early stage in his career then let him go...... if he wants to better his footballing abilities by playing under a better coach in a better system ... AND have the bonus of potentially playing first grade with his brother sometime down the track, then let's sign him for a fair bit less than 220K a season.

I smell a dirty player manager milking the system here (like they do so well)
