Jayden Nikorima to Sydney Roosters on 3 year deal

Milford is 21, Hunt and Macca 25. Boyd is older but Milford won't be moved back to fullback now and Jayden is not a fullback. Jayden will surely end up a better hooker than Macca but that fact didn't help Granville much. Not sure just how long term you're expecting him to think?

So he can tackle then?

The problem is that if Jayden wants to develop into the player he wants to become, he won't get there by jumping at the first offer that comes his way. Especially at a club like the Roosters who have a terrible track record of developing players they've poached from other clubs.

At Brisbane, he doesn't have that pressure to perform. In addition, he's already settled here and has plenty of support both on and off the field.

Going from reports, it sounds like Jayden recognises that, which is why he's leaning towards staying here.

that's a bit harsh I think - it's not as if he's going to scrub tier club. he's going to the roosters, a powerhouse club that actually has a pretty good record of bringing through juniors/youngsters in recent times - pearce/friend/jwh/skd/tupou/napa/evans. Hastings is clearly next cab off the rank and they're itching to get Mitchell in there as well.

he might not become the player he wants to be either if he's left to dominate comps that are below him - such as the u20's. he's not going to learn much more there.

He'd probably get the same money by signing a smaller deal over less time. Then prove himself and get a good updgrade from the 3rd year or whatever.

If he re-signed under the certainty that he'd be in our top 17 next year, I'd be fine with that, I think he'd be doing exactly what Kodi is doing for us this season, except he's better and far more versatile, he'd be a hybrid Utility / Bench Hooker because he can cover any spot between 1-7, which is PERFECT after the interchanges come down.

That's not what Big Pete said, he said they have a poor record of developing players they've poached from other clubs, not juniors that have come through their ranks (which are the ones you have listed mainly)

Yeah just tell him no worries, you're in next year, your brother is going to the 2nds.Hahaha

For all their 'power', the Roosters seemingly fail to handle their players off the field. Despite all their recent success, a few of their star players simply can't help themselves and get caught up in the Sydney life-style.

And most of them are players who have either grown up there or have spent a substantial amount of time down there. For newcomers, the situation can be overwhelming and it's far easier to get caught up in the lifestyle down there, especially when you're young.

That can't be good for his on-field form, which is going to be scrutanised from the moment he steps in. If he does sign, he'll be coming in during a tentative time for the Roosters as they try to adjust to life without RTS, SBW & Maloney. I have no doubt they'll dip and they'll be looking for scapegoats. If Jayden doesn't live up to it in any of the positions they pick him for, they'll go after him and he'll lose his confidence.

So it isn't really a black and white situation.

Like Guerra, JWH, SST, Tupou?

Only JWH was offered a lucrative deal.

Even so, he'd been living in Sydney for years, had already played at Test level and the development of a prop versus the development of a playmaker is different and doesn't seem to carry the same amount of pressure.

Even so, the fact he lost and has failed to regain his Test spot brings into question how effective his time at the Roosters has really been.

nah, i think you're clutching at straws there. he went from an u20's player with potential (having played what, 6 games?) to one of the best front rowers in the game, nz international, premiership winner, cornerstone of the roosters pack. To 'bring into question' how effective his time has been at roosters is deadset laughable.

JWH was a Test footballer before joining the Roosters and was earmarked for big things.

While he's had a fine career at the Roosters, the fact of the matter is he lost his spot and hasn't been overly consistent in his time at the Roosters.

Yeah he was a test footballer after 6 games, the same way Sione Matt Utai is a test footballer and he's struggling to keep his spot in first grade.

Heaps of players are earmarked 'for big things'. Everyone's the next someone. It's only revisionism that validates it, most of the next big things plateau and become average players at best.

As for being inconsistent, perhaps when he was younger as per the general course for forwards, but the past few years he's been excellent and he's still only 26.

I agree with you on a playmaker having more pressure though, especially if they're not one of the clubs own, but at the end of the day any club isn't going to put up with underperforming halves forever so he's gonna be faced with a similar situation wherever he goes. I'm sure he'd rather the pressure of NRL than of U20's though, he'd certainly learn a lot more.

The difference between Mata'utia and JWH is that the former was picked out of necessity. They picked the latter because they saw big things in him.

Similar, but the fact his inconsistent form cost him his spot in the NZ Test team goes to show that even their best example isn't all that great.

he'd certainly learn a lot more.

You do tend to learn more from your losses.

Not all of it good either.

I'd like to see us keep him but there's no way we can match the Roosters' third party deals. In particular the sweet hookup Uncle Nick's boys get from the judiciary. If Jayden stays up here he'll end up with a 2 week suspension for sneezing loudly and faces the chance of being sent off for being 30m on side, while down there he could shoulder charge players off the ball while tripping the referee and still get off.

TBH a Roosters player could stab someone on the field and get off.

"what are you talking about? I was simply holding out my lucky machete, for luck and he ran onto it... 5 times"

"not guilty... and the Broncos player gets 5 weeks for bloodying your lucky knife"

Roosters Sign Young Gun Nikorima - Roosters

Nikorima gone.

The Sydney Roosters are pleased to announce the signing of highly-sought after Australian Schoolboy, Jayden Nikorima.

With a number of NRL Clubs pursuing his services, the Roosters have signed the exciting 18 year-old utility for three seasons commencing in 2016.

Roosters recruitment manager, Peter O’Sullivan, believes that Nikorima has a big future in the NRL.

“Jayden is a wonderfully talented young man who can play in the halves, at hooker or fullback and we’re pleased to have secured his services,” said O’Sullivan.

“Jayden possesses brilliant speed and a running game to bring balance to our squad and we look forward to watching him develop on and off the footy field in the coming years,” he added.

Nikorima will officially join the Roosters when the Club’s 2016 NRL pre-season commences later this year.
