is it just me or is this absolute bs! He played 3 games at lang park, 3 bloody games! Build one at ballymoore for him, why the hell is $70,000 of tax payer money going to a bloody rugby union player!!!! Every person and their dog thought langer should have got the statue, it was even going to be paid for by a businessman. Political corruption at its finest! Someone was leaned on by a rugby union following politician/businessman to get this happening because the public wants a langer statue, pathetic decision.

It is being put at the milton street end. They are also talking about putting a thomas broich statue there. I dont mind soccer, but ffs he isnt even australian and its not like winning the A-league title is what every australian kid dreams of even if they are soccer fanatics!

For such a simple little thing I could not imagine a more stupid move by the government. Such an opportunity (particularly at origin time) to get free positive publicity for a cheap price. Instead, judging by facebook, instagram and twitter responses it is a shockingly bad PR stunt for the state government. Shockingly bad....

It's amazing how low profile rugby is these days compared to the NRL/Origin. It probably enjoyed a similar profile in the early to mid 00s.

SCG/SFS walkway has 14 statues with AFL, cricket, league and athletics all represented. Yabba is there too and he was just a yobbo. Pretty sure Cuthbert never ran at the SFS or SCG.

I think they're trying to have a similar type situation and have all the sports there in some way and make it a legends walk. Lang Park was home to Queensland soccer before it was home to league and athletics was run there all the time.

Using public funds for statues is stupid anyway, even when it's for Lewis or Lockyer. If you want to honour an athlete you can name something after them and use the money to do something of tangible value.

Sadly, there's a lot of shit public funds get wasted on. It hurts to think about the positive impact that some of that money could have had on our society.
