Kangaroos Train-On Squad

Ryan James is definitely the most "...What?" pick of the squad. Even more so than McCrone IMO, who can at least be considered a utility.

As for Croker, don't forget that Mark Gasnier made an international career out of one move. We don't expect much from NSWelshman these days after all. Haha

Havent watched many titans games while Bailey was out have you? Guy has been a machine. Gets through mountains of work and hits the line hard. I put him alongside mcguire right now

Yep I agree Qlder, there's no way he will make the squad, but it's warranted recognition for his season and improvement.

Decent side, I don't really understand why Bird is selected at 5/8th and Reynolds on bench, I would have thought vice versa, or Bird starting in 2nd row and Papilli on bench.

or Thaiday to the bench and Bird to second row. A backrow of Parker, Bird and Papalli is pretty close to what I'd like to see playing for Australia in the World Cup.

Yea I didn't say that (even though I think it as well) because lets be realistic, they would never drop Thaiday to the bench, he is always an automatic selection

Do you ever think that during the World Cup for the games against the minnow countries the selectors can pick some up and coming players and established NRL players like Nathan Merritt who hasn't played test footy, just for a pat on the back?.

I'd hate that personally. i think it cheapens the jersey when you just hand out selections as a kind of treat. I don't mind resting players against minnow nations for the sake of keeping them healthy for the finals but I think playing for Australia should be an honour that you gain by being one of the best 17 players in the country.

guys like Nathan Merritt are great servants of the game but he doesn't deserve to play for Australia at all. Coach's awards are there as a pat on the back for players who work hard and play consistently well (but aren't necessarily superstars).

I don't understand, what is this .....?

Why are half the players missing ....?

Players get added when their teams are knocked out of the finals. Easts, Manly, Newcastle and Souths are still in the finals so their players are not considered for the time being.

Completely agree with this.

I don't get the training squad at all. i know they were named earlier when there were no other options but if you have Croker and Kevin Gordon in the squad, then surely Chambers, O'Neill and Mick Gordon deserve a place too

With taylors current form i'd consider taking him as our impact bench second rower. Probably like the idea of a scott gallen fifita prop rotation with maybe myles. We're stacked with second rowers and no way tamou deserves selection in any rep team after this year. (i know contentious opinions but apart from small small amounts of fan boyism i'd be as happy with papalli to taylor, because of defence gillet shouldn't be selected) if idris was fit i'd have him replace hodges but morris is the obvious selection otherwise. Morris and hayne to wings for mine. The maroon wingers not too far off.

For the Aussie team in the Cup, I'd go:

1. Slater (If fit, he is still the world's best FB)
2. Boyd
3. Inglis
4. Tate
5. Taufua
6. Thurston
7. DCE
8. Scott
9. Smith (c)
10. Fifita
11. Myles
12. Bird
13. Gallen

14. Hayne
15. Parker
16. Watmough
17. Lewis

That won't be the team but that is what it should be in my view.
