THE EX Kevin Walters

The press conference was a hard watch. I think Walters knows he doesn't have the complete team to win a comp but obviously can't say it, but end of the buck stops with him, and I can't decide if he looked furious with the game tonight or looked like a man who is lost and absolutely out of his depth and actually has no answers.

Wow, he really is floundering.
The journos questions suggest they can smell blood in the water.
They know the big story here is Kevs tenure is in danger of termination.
You rarely hear questions put to a coach with such a level of disrespect.
I'd say watch this space. This could happen this year.
Yeah the media has turned on him. Usually the pile on gets worse and worse from this stage. Not many coaches survive it

That presser tells me all I need to know. KW hasn't got a effing clue.
Wouldn't accept that these types of performances were happening far too regularly. Didn't think the roster needed changing. FMD Donuts grow some balls and get rid of this Muppet, but do it with humanity.
Do nothing and we will be on the same topic in 12 months time

He's done. That's the only thing I can take from that presser.

Kev, if the players don't realise the pressure on the club every week, I'm sorry but that's on you. It's YOUR job as head coach to make sure the guys on the payroll are focused mentally and right physically to give 100% on the field every week. An admission that the players don't understand...is an admission you've lost the dressing room. If they are not listening to you, mate, with all due respect, you have got to walk.

I don't like it...I love Kev, he bleeds maroon and gold and I wish he would succeed but it's not working. I genuinely think he cares TOO much about the club. We need someone who isn't so attached to the club. I never thought I'd say it after the Siebold debacle but I think it's time. And it needs to happen NOW so the new coach can look after the preseason, otherwise we may as well write off next year as well.

Problem is, with such a young side, the club has the potential to literally ruin careers... IMO Kev needs to go sideways somehow. Fucking culture manager or something. Still part of the club but without the responsibility. He's not cut out for head coach of this club, please put him (and us) out of his (and our) misery.

Let Kevvie go the same way he came. Completely under the radar without a press conference. The boys will show up to training Monday morning and will be like “where’s Kevvie”

He's a specialist caretaker. That's why they headhunted him.
That's an interesting comment.
Was Barrett Kevvies choice or the boards?, if the latter, then maybe the board has little confidence in Kevvie turning things round next season.
Also, when KW first got the job, I thought Paul Green was a shoe in and guess it was old boys pressure that forced the board to go with Kevvie. Furthermore, I think they fully expected him to shit the bed, then along came Walsh and we reached the GF and at the moment we are stuck with Kevvie, rightly or wrongly.

Those journos went after him there and clearly tried to make him crack - do they have some intel?
Yes, it's started. This can only be the Broncos:

Received wisdom is Kevvie should get another crack at a season, and be given the usual number of weeks to show he's righted the ship. And if not, he gets the hoof, an assistant gets promoted and the club goes to market for a serious replacement. He'd be paid out his contract and get time to find another gig.

Barrett is perfect for that scenario. He's used to being chewed up and spat out by clubs. There's no way he'd get the top job, but he's had the experience in taking over the reins midway through a season then rolling up his swag at the end.

Ironically it might seem kinder giving Kevvie another crack, but if the club can already see he's not working out it would be easier on him to slink off during the off season when the NRL has drifted off the news cycle. If it pans out the way most expect, it won't be pretty watching him die a slow painful death in the media.
