THE EX Kevin Walters

I think what this thread shows is that you need to give coaches a good 2-3 years to really stamp their mark on a club. Get them in, clean up the roster to their liking and give them time to really get their ideas across.

We all wanted to be winning 50-0 and steamrolling our way to #7, but the way we're improving at the moment feels very wholesome. We're doing it the right way with the right people.

It's the same with everything, coaches need time, young players need time (yes Tesi haters, I am looking at you).

If you act out irrationally you take away that time and you end up going nowhere.

Badel reporting that Kevvie has secured a $50k bonus for making the finals

He will get an additional $25k if we make the top 4

His base wage is $400k which makes him one of the lowest paid coaches in the comp
Wasn’t Seibold on 500k a year and everyone carried about how high his contract was? Must be heaps of coaches on $499k then if Kev is the lowest one 400k

Pretty sure Seibold was on like 800k a year (could be wrong)

He received a severance of 1.5 million but IIRC that was more a settlement rather than buying out the rest of his contract in full

Seibold was on reportedly anywhere from 800k to 1m, well over double Kev. It's kind of a shame but Kev isn't worth more than that until he has long term results. 400k base + bonuses, life's good, can't complain too much.

I think in general Coaches are paid too little, they can make far more difference to a team then any 1 player can and even the best with long term results don't match the pay of the best players in the game.

That said a coaching career can last 2-3 times longer then a playing career so they will make more over time if they are good.

They don’t even need to be good. Nathan Brown has made a fortune while impersonating a coach‘s arsehole.

Browns claim to fame was turning Newcastle from a wooden spoon team into not a wooden spoon team, Kevvie did the same except now they are a top 4 team(for now atleast) as a rookie coach.

Imagine if our board wasn't stupid and picked him the first time instead of getting blinded by PowerPoints from Seibold(then again if that happened we probably still have white so it was probably worth the pain).

Didnt Brown win 3 spoons in a row and only turned it around when he finally recruited outside of the useless Newcastle development system ie. he spent a fucking fortune on Ponga, Klemmer and Pearce

The thing is Newcastles development system is probably the best outside of Broncos and Penrith, it's just they lose them all before they get to first grade.

They basically have first dibs on all country NSW players and yet they still **** it.

None of the "future guns" they bring through look any good, except maybe the Saifiti's.

But then you hear of players from the area like Latrell, Cordner, etc. and think maybe they're just a development club for the rorters

Without Donuts and Ikin at the helm, Kev could have been chewed up and spat out as well.

Kevvie has done an unbelievable job, when you really think about it

Rubbish. Always been average at best.

That is because they have been run by idiots for as long as anyone can remember, in terms of players coming through they have no excuses.
