And yet, if the qualifying benchmark for having a decent season involves being able to match the top sides, and not being seen as an easy two points, we kind of did that?
Matched the top teams? When?
2014 - fell arse backwards into the finals, finished in 8th. Got knocked out in week 1 by the Cowboys.
2013 - didn't make the top 8, finished 12th.
2012 - limped into finals, finished 8th. Got knocked out in week 1 by the Cowboys.
2011 - Good season, finished 3rd. Got knocked out in preliminary final by eventual GF winner. Only the 2nd year under Henjak / Griffin we managed to win a finals game and actually beat the GF winner in the final round of the season. We won 2 - against Warriors and Dragons. Arguably this was the only year in the last 6 we were a 'top' team.
2010 - didn't make the top 8, finished 10th.
2009 - finished 6th. Won 2 finals games and were defeated by Storm in GF qualifier.
So in 6 years, we managed to make the finals 4 times, twice we won games and progressed and twice we were knocked out in week 1 of the finals.
In the two years we progressed the winner knocked us out of the comp. So if that is us 'competing' against the top teams, when the results show we have been consistently beaten by them, then you have a different understanding of the term 'competing' than I do....
