Good read and contains a real home truth. I don't expect a premiership rather I hope we see another in the coming years. What I do expect is to regain the lost respect from the opposition players and coaches and to have them hoping for a win against us rather than anticipating it. Good to hear the preseason is about hard work and humility with a sense of teamwork.

Looking forward to competing with the top 4 teams and being taken seriously. Even though we have apparently already been doing that despite the results and analytical comments from reporters and commentators suggesting otherwise

Re: Pre-Season

 I hate it when people rewrite history.

The Broncos were never treated as a bye and they constantly pushed the top teams - they lacked certain attributes the top teams had but they were never that hopeless and to be fair, I don't think any club in the modern era is.

I read the article last night and thought it was an interesting story into the type of changes Bennett was making around the club. I don't think it's going to be the missing link, otherwise the battlers would have been a lot more successful but every bit helps.

Was also interesting to hear Bennett lend his support to the redevelopment plan in Red Hill. Sounds like he's changed his tune on that.

We have lacked professionalism and ruthlessness.

Acceptance of defeat and turning up to games knowing that we've got "nothing to lose" rather than hopeful of us winning against Manly, Melbourne, Souths and the like has crept in.

I thought it was pretty obvious to that I was exagerating and using a bit of creative licence. In any case yes we were competitive but really we never looked like actually beating the top sides. Yes I was exagerating when I said the booked us in as a bye but at the same time I don't think any of them were concerned about not winning against us. When you hear reports of South sydney players claiming to love the week before playing us as it is the shortest video sessions they ever have, it paints a picture...

But I fo apologise for exagerating however at the same time if anyone believes that over the last few years that the top teams were overly concerned about us they themselves are doing some history revision

Re: Pre-Season

There was only one season where we were taken lightly and that was 2013. Some will say that's one season too many and I agree with them but we were generally on the radar.

Here's the funny thing about creative license. At first it starts off as a joke but eventually it catches on, becomes the perception before manifesting itself into the truth. It isn't close and I'm going to nip it in the bud before people act like the Broncos were a team of cripples before Wayne took over.

Re: Pre-Season

BP...I don't see anyone thinking we were a complete shambles but what I think b4life and myself were saying is that we had lost that aura and not just in one season but over the last 6 odd years. Sure we were competitive on occasions but teams in the middle and lower ranks thought that they were even money and the top sides thought they went in as favourites against us. What keeps coming back to me was a comment a player made about our predictability and the ease with which his team could go through us. Some licence taken there I suspect with my recollection but I'm old ha ha

Thing is mate I never said anything like that, not even in my exageration.

Over the last few years against the top teams we were so close but so far.

At no point was I trying to make this about the bennett war or anything like that, I was simply starting that it will be nice not to be treated as a pretender anymore (if things go they way I believe they will). No one made out that we were cripples post Wayne but whether you want to believe it or not the top teams never took us seriously.

Nothing needed to be nipped in the bud but that's your call I guess

I can read Huge, this is what was said.

The main thing I am looking forward to is the top 4 sides no longer circling us along with the byes for their free 2 pts

This didn't happened, not in a literal or figurative sense.

If you want to interpret things to suit a view, fine, but what I was saying is that I hate how people keep lowering the bar and setting these expectations that can never be measured.

We all hope Bennett and the club can improve and play some champagne Rugby League but let's not make stuff up or exaggerate in the process by using words like 'never'.

Re: Pre-Season

Gotta agree with Huge and b4l, Big Pete. Not saying you don't have a point but the sad fact is over the last few years, the Broncos have gone soft. Last year was a classic example. We played in some real thrillers against the top teams like Souths and the Roosters but I never got the feeling we were in with a chance despite how close the scoreline was.

On a final note, I wonder which player it was and if Griffin would have billed him for the lost pants?

I honestly can't believe a throw away comment has generated all this. This was nothing to do with bennett or trying to portray as some hero or whatever you are inferring.

If you think the top 4 sides worried about us over the last few years then that's great, I dont think they did.

I'm not interpreting that to 'suit a view' that's what it looked like to me. I still don't understand why you have made this such a big deal, it was a simple comment about what I am excited for. Everyone exaggerates about every now and then, even you BP.

But I will edit my post to make sure nothing is misconstrued

Re: Pre-Season

It's not a big deal.

I was happy to leave it at one post. I expressed my view that revisionist history like that doesn't achieve anything and was subsequently proven correct.

I don't know how charging for pants will suddenly result in us achieving respect from all comers. It'd be great if it happened, but as of right now, it's just an mildly interesting anecdote.

I'm sure it's just one of many changes Wayne is bringing to the club. Hopefully it's successful because I'd much celebrate the future than condemn the past.

Re: Pre-Season

Making the players accountable for their actions or lack thereof will be a nice change......

well, at least for a while

at least until the angry mob start wanting the coach blamed and sacked

.......again.

Re: Pre-Season

I want some clarification here, the word "pants" can be interpreted in a number of ways. Did a player lose his playing shorts? Training shorts? Long trousers? Or has a player lost a pair of club supplied reg grundies?
And what were the circumstances? Did Corey Parker take pity on a trouserless homeless bloke and give him a pair of duds? Did Matty Gillett's slender new frame meant his shorts no longer stayed in place and were lost at sea in a windsurfing accident up near Bribie? Or has Sam Thaiday been the victim of the dreaded pants purloiner?
Hopefully they'll cover this in depth on the website. I mean you can't just say a player lost his pants and then leave it at that. We need details damnit!
edit: 1910 and a few others seem to get the inside word. Anything you guys can tell us?

Re: Pre-Season

Was it Sam Thaiday who made some positive headlines for the club by chucking a heap of gear at fans at the end of a game last year?

We were competitive throughout the season in most of the last 6 years. But in most we definitely were not competitive at the business end of each year. When the top teams were standing up and looking at the finals. We were invariably on the slide and on our way out of the comp.

That's the way it has been for years now. When it really matters, we haven't been within 'cooee' of the top teams.

In at least 2 of those years we were right up there with as good a chance as any of winning the premierships come finals time - 2009 and 2011 specifically. Lockyer doesn't go down and we win the premiership in 2011 IMO, without a shadow of a doubt.

Yes but they aren't the years I'm talking about so I'm not sure of their relevance
