THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

Yeah but sometimes offloads are brutal to the game plan when you are working toward specific points on the field.

Not talking about Haas specifically, he seems to have a pretty great knack for knowing when to pull the trigger. Far better than a TPJ ‘offload every tackle’ approach.

Imagine being a half trying to set up for a particular play or kick, and the ball is worked toward the required point in the field only to be offloaded and flung to the other side of the field for a gain of 3m.
That half would the captain. I cringe when I see that play where he trots sideways and then hands the ball back for a hit-up with no chance of it being anything other than an unsupported hit up.

I'm not for a second saying that Kev had it all figured out. But from how Madge has used the squad he's inherited almost completely from Kev, some of his selection calls look bizarre
The theory that he's reticent to use inexperienced/young players does pan out. It would explain why Mozer and Te Kura haven't had a look in, and why he barely trialled Black, preferring Madden and Walters.

In light of that, the cupboard's pretty bare. It's pretty much Marty Taupau.

At what point do the players take the hit?.
Pies Kev and Madge, 3 completely different coaches. Too technical, too easy going , too hard.
Talk about a goldilocks squad. At what point is everything juuust right.
The common denominator is the players.
Why is Madge, someone who has a history of having teams hate his guts, the guy that gets to do it though… we should have no loyalty to the **** he’s done nothing for us. if he’d started well here sure, but he hasn’t. We’ve beaten no good sides… lost to some bad ones as well.

You want to sack a new coach, with an inherited roster including assistant coaches, at round 10 when we're 7th on the table with no byes?

I’m not ready to give the **** carte Blanche to blow the club up no

And the team list wasn’t a surprise to him when he turned up…. He knew what he had to work with and thought he’s the bloke to do it…. And I don’t think anyone on this forum is happy with what he’s dished up…

We beat the Bulldogs. They are a good side this year. But that's the frustrating thing about this team. If we could play like that for 80% of our games every week we would be near unstoppable.

They aren’t really tho

This coach was bought in to be the final piece to the premiership. He shouldn't be given the keys to blow it all up. He wasn't signed here to go through a rebuild. 18 months ago this team was a bees dick from a premiership. He is to be judged on producing results immediately not in 3 years time.

An 8 and 1 team and aren't a good team? Id rather be where they are than where we are. They are a definite contender this year whether you like to admit it or not. That style they play can win games when it matters too.
They lost to us = not good.

The only justification would be that he’s set a minimum number of cup games, taking a page out of Belly’s book.

I don’t hate it. It’s a good long term mindset.

The issue is, we found out that when Mariner was dropped he kept getting picked on the extended bench and went like 3 rounds without playing a single game in first grade or cup. Which is smooth brained

That's just bed-wetting mentality.
I'm 100% certain the coach isn't telling the players to run out on the 1st tackle like Mariner did against Souffs or any other of the soft choices made in attack going for broke early in tackle counts.

It takes a little time to change habits entrenched from the Kev attack from anywhere years.
I'm happy for him to get a bit more than 10 games in before shitting myself.

I think we do have a soft underbelly, I hated the way Staggs didn't defend Billy when Burton dogshot blind sided him or anyone take exception to Piakura getting kneed in the head.

If we're prepared to accept that without retaliation that is as weak as piss but that's on the players.
They get bullied and they're not up for the fight, that goes to depth of character and shows zero leadership or pride on the field it's ****ing submissive and has no place in a successful rugby league teams mentality.

I'm pretty sure it's not madge who has instilled this in them but madge needs to change it and soon.

I cant give madge a slide on how bad the tigers were and his inauspicious departure from the bunnies. he's managed to turn a 3 game coaching role with the most stacked nsw team in forever into 3 years at the biggest club in the game with a squad that 90% of coaches would fall over themselves to have...

Which coaches would fall over themselves to have our back row depth?

This keeps getting trotted out but is it that good?
physical ability yes
Football IQ no
Mental toughness no.
Will to win no.

We've analysed it to death - if we stop trying the hail mary plays and going for glory every tackle, we'll win more than we lose. Start there.

Oh, and make some running metres in the back 3.

Simples.

You picked the one position we dont have a rep player in.
It's not one position: it's three plus at least two on the bench, plus minimum three reserves.

Our state rep level players are currently:

1. Haas
2. Carrigan
3. Cobbo
4. Hunt
5. Walsh

Had they not been injured neither Walsh nor Hunt would've been picked for QLD. Cobbo shouldn't be picked, but probably will be.

So in reality, we have two rep grade props, of which one is better at lock.
