THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

I think some of these media people forget we have a salary cap. We might want to keep Cobbo, same as with Flegler and Farnworth, but if the budget isnt there decisions have to be made. Cobbo isnt the most professional or committed when it comes to making the most of his talent, so at the end of the day, its Cobbo's asctions that are making it an easy decision for the club to not invest in him.

I think the frustrating thing is that the media all year has been "they can't afford to keep both"... so when we choose the guy with 150 games, part of the leadership group and showing through actions that he's buying in... they complain "why did they let him go!!!"

It's just always damned if you do and damned if you don't when it comes to broncos and media... the only way for the club to change that is to win on the field.. because then the media has no ground to stand on.

The Dobbo and Kevvie podcast autoplayed the other day and it was funny when Dobbo was going on about it... he started listing off all the broncos now playing elsewhere and I think almost all of them were let go by Kevvie.

There was the previous list of Flegler, Herbie, Hosking and Capewell from the previous week, but he doubled down and added Dearden, Coates and Palasia... he might've even added TMM, Isaako and Bullemor.

I was listening and laughing like... mate you don't even realise that you are throwing you co-host under the bus.

Kevvie just said "you can't keep them all"... which is true.. but I think Dobbo was thinking "true, but you should at least be keeping some" except he never said it.

I think Dobbo's point was going to be along the lines of "is it a talent identification issue when it comes to the broncos", because he talked about Sua and Fifita in terms of the amount of former broncos across the league... but I think he realised that the talent was identified, and it can be the coach who decides not to retain.

Gotta love how these journos are too afraid to stick it to Gordie.

Last night on 360 CONEHEAD gave some diatribe about Cobbo playing for Australia and if the Broncos really wanted him they wouldn’t have offered him such a disrespectful offer. Brent Read then tells Gordie he hasn’t been playing at that level to earn an Australian players contract. To which Gordie replies, “You don’t think he has?” And stares Read down. Read looks startled and end of conversation.

Buzz did get Gordie with a zinger though . Gordie whining about Mo getting dropped for Papa .
Buzz told him 2 Titans front rowers was too many . Because they are last in the comp and reasons . He didn`t have much to say in reply .

Being the Australian coach has to be one of the easiest coaching gigs in the world. Granted it’s as hard as it’s ever been but even so

It's a circus with Gordie and the Broncos. The guy works so hard to cause us issues, if I was Fafita I would be pissed as Gordo apparently was going to personally train him at the Titans and ever since he got there I have only ever heard Gordo say "I don't know whats going on as I am not there" the guy is a flog who has some ambassador deal in which he gets a car and promotes them while actually doing nothing for them because his wife is on the board.

I bet he hasn't had a real conversation with Cobbo or knows anything apart from what Kev has told him. Kev was saying on his podcast he is 700k minimum player. This is the type of guy that took over the salary cap and it was obvious he didn't know wtf he was doing from looking at that excellent spreadsheet posted here from one of the members who I can't recall.

Gordie also hammered young Kaparani for no reason. Essentially saying he wouldn't be remembered over Cobbo. Well mate I will say this I will remember his defensive play against the Wahs where he made a defencive engagement outwide, broke off with a spin into a second effective tackle to take the winger over the sideline. It was excellent defence and something I don't think Cobs would of done because it was an effort play. If the kid continues on playing high percentage footy he will be remembered like De Vere is remembered alongside the Sailors and Loties. So **** of Gordie.

Yep, and more glamorous. If he does have eventual aspirations to coach NRL, this would be the cushier pathway. He needs SOME head coaching experience.

I'm not convinced he does have aspirations to be the Broncos coach, but I reckon if he does, he'd be pretty decent at it.

I can tell I’m getting old because as long as I remember, our hopes have hinged of signing Cam as a player or Bellamy as a coach - now it’s Cam as a coach and Bellamy as a Head of Football 🤣

What is it about Rep coaching ?
Get guys who were elite players to pretend they are elite coaches .

The reality is you don't need to be an elite coach. The players essentially coach themselves. The rep coach is a motivator and organiser. They are more about getting everything right around the squad and getting them united.

I hope Kevie gets the Australian coaching gig. I just love the guy.

Cam Smith can **** off.
To be honest he would be stupid not to go all in on it. He isn't a NRL coach, doesn't have the communication or ability to manage a roster.

Billy will look good in the green and gold too haha just joking.

But Kev has the passion, love of country and the game so would fit perfectly. Also he can let the boys play and just add some nice touch to the play style. He would have my vote. Cam would also work because in theory he did it the whole time he captained.

I wanna see Kevvie hold up every cup Australia can win. He deserves nothing but the best rugby league memories.

Hopefully he is... Shiba is likely lining himself up for a decent stay at the broncos at this point, so he'd be coming to Brisbane, but has his brother here with him.

You don't want to go crazy with a long extension for Shiba, but he's got a top 30 spot for next year so maybe you give him a 12 month extension on that and he suddenly has a contract until the end of 2027.
Very sensible mentality around contracts. Why the **** can’t guys actually running NRL clubs be this sensible?

- Guys cracking first grade should be on 1 year deals, with at most a 1 year option if they’re a pretty elite prospect.

- Established players should be on two year deals, with at most a third year option if they’re high potential or they’re long serving/leaders

- 3+ year deals should only be for the very best 5 or so players on your books. Your absolute best 1-2 guys might have a 1 year option on top of that if they’re a Captain/leader, key spine player or the basically the best player in their role across the competition (eg Payne Haas/Stephen Crichton/Tino etc)

- 4 & 5 year deals should really only offered as an absolute exception, and reserved for the absolutely elite players of the entire competition. Cleary, Yeo, Haas, Grant, Munster etc. Realistically, not all clubs have at least one of these players so not every club should have guys on deals like this. Realistically, there is arguably no current player at the Raiders, Wahs, Dolphins, Dragons, & Cowboys that should be on a deal as long as this. You could argue the Sharks and Knights have no one deserving that right now, but TBF to them, Ponga and Hynes probably fit this category when they signed their respective deals at the time.
