THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

I wonder do people have a problem with Reyno being on the Fox panel now that we're winning again?

Yes. Id rather none of our players went on that shit ever, win lose or draw.

Look what they've done, said and published about Ezra and what thats caused. Why have our players go on their to give insight, analysis etc. Fk them.

Unfortunately the players will always do it for the $$

My issue was that he went on immediately after our game last time. I don’t care if he does it the next day.

He had a shocker though so maybe I should still care. You could hear the dogs huddle say “see, pressure Reynolds and he’ll kick it out on the full”

It's been such a topsy turvey campaign from the Broncos, that I wouldn't be willing to cut them some slack until they hit 12 wins.

It's important to celebrate the wins like Friday, so I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. As they stand, I still think their season is up in the air.

Right now, I still think it's between the Storm, Panthers, Bulldogs and Raiders.

I am absolutely all onboard the Raiders train. They're fearless. Such a fun side to watch.

I agree with you but feel we will take the spot from the Dogs. Something about them seems shaky, could be just not having Crichton there.

Pretty ridiculous to expect MM to fix the obvious cultural problems in a few months. From what Ive heard Tom Dearden wouldn't want to be coached by Walters again, and after last night that might be one Dobbo or CONEHEAD could ask in his podcast...

With 2 games left of the regular season, I thought I’d do a bit of a pulse check.

How are we all feeling?

Will always have love for my boy Kevvie (still against sacking him), but there's no doubt we've improved on 23 and the credit goes to Madge.

Besides maybe carrigan?, everyone in the squad has improved (and we've developed some new superstars too). While a premiership this year is guaranteed, we'll see how Madge can get the team to back it up next year.

I wanted to keep Kevvie too obviously and am not Maguire’s biggest fan but credit where it’s due, this side is doing way better than I thought it would with the injuries it’s had and Gibasaki, Talty and and Karapani have been amazing selections.

Mariner has clearly levelled up and looks a superstar in the making. Piakura was looking excellent too before his head knocks and Xman was having a career year. Walters has also never looked better and he’s managed to get Walsh to start looking like an out and out gun more often than not. Mama looked great too before getting injured. Staggs is having a career year.

The squad has massive holes at second row and losing Cobbo hurts (but completely understand why he’s been let go). Patty has gone backwards but that’s about it. There are clearly systems starting to become visible and Maguire is making the kids earn it.

It hasn’t been perfect but given all the injuries we’ve had plus the Mam fiasco, Maguire gets a tick even after an atrocious mid year slump that has likely cost us top four.

A shame we had that poor form slump earlier. Should've been a free ride to top 4 with a couple of games we absolutely shouldn't have lost.

Also a shame is the injuries. Full strength I believe we would've had a genuine shot given the unpredictability of the comp this season. Still, who knows.

One thing for sure is it at least they look like they give a shit and are putting in effort this year, which is nice to see.

I think that slump was more to do with not having Walsh.

This year with Walsh we've won 11/16 games (69%), scoring 11pts per game more and conceding 6pts per game less (17 pt difference per game with Reece)... without Reece we won 2/6. That win percentage would have us with 15 wins for the year and sitting in 3rd.

Since he joined in 2023 we've got a win percentage of 65% with him and 43% without him.

He is by far our most influential player, but it could also show that we had absolutely no back up at fullback if Reece was ever unavailable... and with Cobbo leaving I don't think we have anyone that even plays fullback contracted for next year, except for Reece.

I think Anderson has played some fullback, so at the moment he's probably our backup.

The coaching absolutely needs to find capable back up at fullback, because we can't just be cannon fodder when one player isn't available... and we also can't expect Reece to be available for 24 games a year + finals.

Regardless of what happens from here, you have to consider this season as at the very least a passing grade. The complacent surrenders from last year are gone. There have been 3 games this season where we were behind by a mile yet fought back and won it. That shit simply does not happen last year, or during the dark days of 20-22.

Even if nothing becomes of this season, we are clearly building to something good. Next year might even be go time with Reyno and Hunt's retirements on our doorstep.

A pass mark is aided by this being the worst season in living memory… are there any good teams in the comp? Standard of play has been shit, officiating shit, the whole leagues lacks any sort of intrigue…

We actually aren’t playing well, and aren’t any better than we were last year. Everyone else is just ordinary.

If Kev can get us to a grand final one year and be gone the next, Madge’s position is still questionable long term

Love kevy but madge gets a pass mark for this year. Hes been alot luckier with injuries than 2024 Kev.

We have improved for this year but still far from how 2023 form under Kev. Id say our finish this year is more due to our luck with injuries throughout the year rather than anything that madge has done to improve us.

Look I think some aspects are starting to improve and Madge gets a tick for being able to get us to a finals through plenty adversity this season but I still can’t say we are playing very good football as a unit.

In saying that definitely starting to see some promising signs and good performances individually throughout the squad as well which is pleasing.

Shiba and Talty have been great finds as well.

Need to somehow fix second row and get a back up fullback and keep the upwards trajectory going.
