OFFICIAL Manly sack Anthony Seibold

We shouldn't stress over things like this. We will replace him and move on.
It will create a situation where Madge gets to pick his guy... and that will be very interesting.

I would love nothing more than if Madge brings in a gun defensive coach and really take this group to the next level.

This broncos team with a top 4 defence is at the same level as penrith... even with a middle of the road 7th ranked defence they still beat them and won a comp.

Anyone else think Payten will also get the sack this Round or within the next few weeks, just got the feeling the Cows management might panic and fear losing the replacement they had picked out for next year with the Manly job now open too.

The smart thing Ballin has done his coaching career is taken on a variety of roles, he's done a Cup team, development, back five, hookers, ruck, gone back to teaching, Queensland U19, Origin even coaching the Broncos for two games this year. I keep saying he's a great 'teacher.' I don't know what he's like in the classroom but teaching league he's great and he's been patient. He's gets on really well with the young players.

When Mozer did his shoulder in 23 he was the only staff member that went and saw him in hospital- he does things like that all the time. He's very relational.

One of the best things Madge did was take his time and consider all the staff and kept them when he came in. Seibold didn't do that he sacked three guys in the first week and put everyone on edge. Madge wasn't too proud to keep staff he rated.

I don't know if the timing is right is right for Ballin he's just had a baby things are pretty good at the moment. Giving up the Origin job, moving to Sydney and taking on Manly, it'd take some thinking.

Penn's comments show just how badly Manly are run. Apparently the sacking was in a large part due to the performances LAST SEASON.

Penn said:

“We were quite clear in the back half of last year we didn’t meet our expectations,”

“We were clear that we capitulated in a few games. We did have a number of injuries that didn’t help but we had solid leads throughout games and didn’t finish it off. We knew we needed to turn it around this year.

“We didn’t make finals and thought there was more potential in the team. We didn’t see that progression. We lost three games at home for first time in 20 years

“Doesn’t meet our clubs standards. We thought we could give it another three games. We didn’t want to be 0-6 and risk it.”

“The extension was part of the process,” Penn said. “We had a clause in our contract in terms of termination.

“We wanted to back the coach. We wanted to back him coming into this season and turn it around.”

Surely Des is lining up for another go...........................third times a charm right?

If only there was some kind of metric the eagles could have looked at before hiring him to see if he was a good coach or not….
A bit of that on both sides imo .. At the time Seibold was being mentioned as the likely hire at Manly, the state that club was in post the Des sacking & the jersey scandal, old boys noise etc - I couldn’t believe Seibold was actually considering walking into such a similar hornets nest as the one he’d previously been in at Brisbane.. But like a moth to a flame…

I still feel like he has something to offer in some role or capacity in the NRL .. he’s an intelligent guy in many respects.. maybe a bit too intelligent for his own good when it comes to being a head coach

Because he spent a weekend at Harvard? His problem is that he ISN'T anywhere near as smart as he thinks he is. Did not learn any lessons from his failure with us at all.

At long last Pies has done something good for this club. If nothing else his sacking will keep us out of the gossip columns for a day or two.

Bullemor is always welcome back into our back row ranks too. Just saying.

Makes me wonder if Manly paid the media to do a blitz on Madge and the Broncos to take away attention from this cluster **** of a club. I feel sorry for Foran, Don't think he knows what he is getting himself into.
I genuinely believe that a lot of ppl on this forum could coach better than seibs. The bloke is the biggest coaching fraud the game has ever seen. Manly still have the worst pack in the comp, but Foran will at least have them playing with passion and getting the ball in Toms hands and out of Brooks’.

Despite how it’s all turned out for him, he did get the nod for head coaching roles at three of the biggest clubs in the NRL and an assistant gig with England Rugby Union.. You’ve got to have something in your kit bag to get that far ..

As we all know though, being intelligent is one thing, but knowing how to apply that is another thing entirely - and clearly Seibold hasn’t figured out the right mix between ‘knowing a lot of stuff’ about the X’s and O’s and being able to tailor that and have it resonate with a group of 30 footballers of varying ages and backgrounds etc etc etc ..

You’re right, he obviously hasn’t learned the human management lessons from his Broncos disaster and he just doesn’t appear to be cut out to be a head coach.. But I reckon there’s some role somewhere within Rugby League that he could be OK at

Removing the rubbish?

Siebold, from watching him do analytics as a commentator, he is switched on.

I believe he would be a great assistant coach, but history shows, a terrible head coach.

Must be a personality thing, that stops him from excepting his position in the rugby league landscape. Bit like Isaako or Cobbo, insisting they are fullbacks.

Kevin Walters might be what Manly needs. I like to think he has learned from his mistakes at the Broncos. He did turn us from wooden spoon into competing for grand final quickly.
