Matt Parcell

No one would pick the offer of living in London and holidaying in Spain over Penrith would they?

Come back and still have 6 years in the NRL.

Life wasted.

Well why don't more players do that if it is such a great opportunity? Are you suggesting that the exclusive opportunity to play for Leeds has only been offered to Parcell? I imagine that Thurston and co must have spent most of their career wondering what more do they have to do to get the attention of the Leeds recruiters.

I have never heard a player return from England and talk up their holidays in Spain. All we hear about is how cold and terrible it is.

Don't a lot of players already do it?
Isn't every second player in the SL Australian?

Thurston is also older, married with kids, hard to believe I know but it's easier and a lot cooler to travel and play footy when 24 and single.

I can't speak for every NRL player but I would say the same as any profession some want to go do it in another country and some are happy at home.

Do you ask Australian teachers or nurses working in the UK why would you? We have hospitals and schools here- why would you leave.

I was clearly talking about Thurston when and others when they were Parcell's age, but you knew that. So you're telling me that they were never offered this 'amazing' opportunity?

Your point about nurses and teachers is nonsensical. The NRL is clearly the premier competition and is the reason why our best players aren't heading over to the UK in the prime of there career so they can chuff off to France when they have downtime.

Gee Manly are silly. Parcell looked like one of the better young number 9's in the game last year. Good luck to him but I think he's going to want to head back to the NRL in a few years because he could easily play origin.

To be fair, I don't think playing for Leeds and living in London would be much fun either. That's a fair amount of travel for training!

I get your point though [emoji12]

Why would you want to play for DC...I mean Manly anyway? Smart move, go to England for a year to get out of playing for that stupid club and then come back to the Broncs.

Jot the name down and in 10 years time we will wonder where Matt Parcell got off to.
He wont be back in the NRL. He will be a super league player for the next 10 years or he will come back and play Q cup until he retires.

Yep, another in a long list of players that get over-rated on BroncosHQ on the scrap heap.

Who said they don't get offers? Maybe they don't want to. Maybe Parcell does. It's really not that hard to understand- some people want to travel and play sport overseas some people don't.

Some people like the colour blue.

There is a whole industry around travel- few people do it. He wasn't happy at Manly and another option came up he was keen to try. May not be for everyone but he clearly thinks it will suit him well for two years.

I will say too, Parcell has always done things a little different. Saying no to NRL deals till he finished his degree, travelling in the last two off-seasons on his own through the US and Europe.

He's never been a finish high school, get an NRL gig stay for 10 years retire with a parade guy.

Have i missed something here? Why would he be living in London playing for Leeds? Its an almost 4 hour trip away. Leeds and the north west of England is nothing like London either. Spain is mostly a dirty hole in the main holiday resorts as well.

I do think he will do well and be back in the NRL in a year or two. I would have taken him back here. Far superior to Jnik as a bench hooker ( i dont quite get the hype over nikorima either tbh, but thats another story ) and would have been a good addition.

I hope Parcel will be back, seems to have an impressive head on his shoulders. The blokes obviously got a good work ethic as well.

Previous argument regarding why some people would want to go over to the UK and others wouldn't is nucking futs and arguing for the sake or arguing? Are you really saying you can't understand people have different preferences/priorities?

Oh and, Nurses in the UK are paid 3/5ths of 5/8ths of sweet F.A - but thousands head there from Aus every year.

I never understood Barrett's approach with Parcell.

Koroisau had an awful understanding of DCE's game, often failing to provide him with efficient service causing the Sea Eagles to rush through their plays and turn the ball over in meek fashion. At least when Parcell was on the field, the Sea Eagles appeared more confident with the football and his kick-chase was a constant source of anxiety for opposition coaches. The only flaw I saw in Parcell's game was his tendency to commit basic errors which has to be expected from a player of his experience.

On the plus side, with Parcell out of the picture, the Sea Eagles public approval will plummet.

Does anyone actually rate Barrett as a coach that highly? Manly really dropped standard this year compared to their last few years and I don't think he did much with the Panthers NYC.

The great coaches seem to come from the ranks of second rate players, not the elite. Possible exception would be Hasler but there would be debate on both counts with him.

I like to give coaches a chance to sort their roster before I make judgement, but tbh a decent coach should be able to achieve reasonable results with an established squad.
