Matt Scott's Mother Passes Away

The mother of Maroons prop and North Queensland Cowboys captain Matthew Scott passed away last night after a long battle with thyroid cancer of the throat.

Scott will not play in tomorrow night’s NRL match against the Canberra Raiders at Dairy Farmers Stadium.
Scott's mother Dianne became suddenly ill the week before Origin Game 2.

She used to drive her son and his teammates four hours to home games and up to eight hours for away games from the remote Central Queensland town of Ilfracombe where he grew up.

Cowboys players will wear black armbands in tomorrow night’s game and a minute’s silence in Dianne’s memory will be observed prior to kickoff.

Scott thanked everyone who has given him a message of support during his mother’s illness.

Gutted by this. Couldn't imagine losing my Mum. As soon as I heard this news I just rang my Mum.

It's sad to hear, though I wont call it news as such. Not to take away from Scott's loss, but does anyone else find it off-putting that the death of player's families is becoming reportable information? There was a report the other day about Farah's mothers funeral and how Farah gave a eulogy.

I have no problem with it being reported, but what the Cowboys have reported is enough. Let the family grieve in peace and leave it at that. We don't need coverage of the funeral etc. Bit of respect and privacy for the player and their family IMO.

I think they way the media reported Farah's mothers death & funeral, was because of the way he played in Origin 2.

Call me nasty etc, but it was over the top.
