Brisbane Broncos hooker Andrew McCullough is on the mend after suffering a bad head knock in his side's 36-0 victory over the Wests Tigers on Friday night.

In sickening scenes, McCullough lay motionless in the 58th minute after his head collided with the hip of Tigers forward Kyle Lovett.

He was treated for several minutes on the field as blood streamed from the back of his head.

Both the Tigers' and the Broncos' medical staff looked after Brisbane's rake, with the reliable hooker being stretchered off the field to applause from a worried Suncorp Stadium crowd.

But news on McCullough's injury has been positive, with the man himself taking to Instagram on Saturday to give an update on his condition.

It appears as though McCullough has been very lucky, suffering only a concussion from the hit.

It's why coach Wayne Bennett is confident that McCullough will be right to play in next week's Round 12 clash with the Warriors in New Zealand.

"He's okay. He's all good. He's getting scans and all that done but he's conscious and talking to everybody and there's some movement there," Bennett said.

"He just got his head in the wrong place when he was making a tackle.

"You don’t see those occasions have too many great consequences apart from a bit of a headache and loss of consciousness.

"He's such a wonderful tackler so it's just unbelievable that he went and got himself caught like that."

Captain Darius Boyd was on the spot when McCullough fell to the ground in dramatic fashion, immediately running to his No.9's aid.

He said after the match that it was a scary moment, with his Broncos teammates feeling helpless as McCullough received treatment.

"It's scary when it happens to anybody. We just wanted him to be okay. All the staff said he is doing pretty well," Boyd said.

McCullough will now need plenty of rest and constant monitoring as he comes to terms with the incident.

His teammates won't be helping his headache, with the majority already visiting the hooker to wish him all the best.

Prop Adam Blair is one who has spoken to him and he is confident 'Macca' will be back with the boys at training sometime this week.

"It didn't look good. Our hearts and our prayers go out to 'Macca'," Blair said.

"The boys have spoken to him and he seems like he's in a good place. He's having scans for precautionary reasons.

"It was a tough thing to watch. 'Macca' leaves his heart and soul out on the field every week and does a great job for us."

He was at training today. Saw footage of him on Korbin Sims Instagram.

As much as I have faith that the trainers know what they are doing I would not like to see Macca back for 2 weeks. The risk of a brain bleed or something like this is too great for a footy game against the warriors or even the rorters.

Was a terrible knock. Needs some time off. Play it safe.

It's obvious that a knock that heavy can't be good for one's long term health.

If the NRL are fair dinkum about player welfare then they won't let Macca play this week. I find it hard to believe he is completely fine and that there are no after effects.

We're going to lose against the Warriors anyway. Just give him the week off.

They can down play it all they want, if he plays next week that is fucked up.
agreed, any serious concussion/being knocked on the field should be a mandatory 1 week stand down period imo.

Watching it live I jumped out of my seat and began to pace the floor .
Worried about his neck .The collision was nasty .

He can't and shouldn't play,

Hunt or Nikorima to 9, and Macca can have two weeks off to recover

If a UFC fighter gets KO'd like that, it's mandatory 6 months off.

Unless cleared by a Doctor .
I was gonna write some thing about how long I thought Macca should sit out . Then I remembered I`m not a Doctor so I kept it to myself . lol .

Have you watched the Warriors play lately. I reckon we are specials even with our Origin boys out. They have no heart. Like a team of Normans

Wayne Bennett is pretty sensible when it comes to head knocks. Macca's chances of traveling to NZ are next to none.

Have you become increasingly more defeatist over the last few months or what? I seem to remember you always being confident and/or upbeat about or chances, now it seems like every week you're bagging our chances or our players.

I reckon we're a big chance against the trash Warriors (Who will be without Lillyman, literally their only forward performing well)

The loss of Lillyman should be off-set by the return of Mannering who is every bit as important.

I also can't imagine Nicoll-Klokstad playing as well.

The warriors will win a few games over the origin period and the media will build them up as world beaters (origin bullies, again) but when the comp starts to get fair dinkum they will be left floundering (again)
Would love to see us win next friday night but with potentially 8 players missing I don't like our chances.
Sure, the warriors are heartless but like all bullies they wait until they can get of a weakling and make themselves feel good.
