McCullough re-signs until the end of 2017

I've been really happy with Macca this year. I was probably a little critical of him last season but his defence is good as ever and his attack has been much better. He's put in a few kicks too.

Good signing! He's been awesome, some of you's put him down like you do with maranta, but you can't have forwards dominate a team like the roosters without a good hooker in charge.

I have been openly critical of Macca but also admit he has improved considerably this year. Still not sure I'm happy with the re -signing but can see positives having him around two more years while the Nikorimi develop.

I'm a bit mehhhh. Never really rated him, but happy to put some faith in Bennett. When there was talk about signing smith, macca really pulled his thumb out and had a few blinders! Didn't last long mind you. Here's to Bennett getting him back to his old ways:beer:

Great to see. Hasn't set the world on fire since his early days but gets through a stack of work, offers 1-2 decent kicks per game and if he can get his running game ba

Remember the McCullough dummy that reaped soo many tries in his early days?

Haven't seen it for 2-3 seasons.

He's currently the second best QLD hooker (based on form). Bennett has got him playing some very good footy.

I'll take it for no other reason other than he seems to be keeping Waddell out of the side

I have him at least 4th in the QLD hooker pecking order, behind Smith, Friend and Segeyaro

Yeah he's definitely not in the top 3 hookers in Queensland, he's probably the 8th or 9th best Hooker in the NRL at the moment in my books, he's still got room to improve his game though, so let's not completely give up on him.

Hookers I rate above McCullough at the moment -

Smith
Farah
Luke
Segeyaro
J.Friend
Peats

Ennis, Hodgson, Rein & Ballin are thereabouts as well.

I'd rate all of those players ahead of McCullough. It's why I'm keen to find out if other clubs genuinely were interested in him. Personally, I doubt it.

Is there a more overrated player on here than Peats?

Made a promising start to 2014 but it started and ended there. He's been fine ever since but definitively better than McCullough?

No way.

I get it though, with some of you, it isn't a case of who's better, it's a case of who's worse.

And going by other suggestions he'd be lucky to be rated over Kierran Moseley, Adam Clydsdale, Apisai Koroisau and New Zealand international Thomas Leuluai.

Oh well, hopefully Andrew 'Wishes he was Shane Walker' McCullough doesn't cost us that elusive 7th premiership.

For the record I didn't say my list was players "difinitevely better" than Andrew, they're just who I personally rate above him in the overall scheme of things.

He's definitely better than Clysdale though

Fair enough but I would legitimately be interested to hear what makes him a better hooker than McCullough because I seriously don't get it.

You're by no means on your own Unbreakable, but I'd be interested to know where it comes from. I have a theory that people just remember that Round 5 2014 clash where he just outpointed McCullough in a game where both hookers were the best players on the park.

I honestly can't see how you can rate peats higher and guys like Hodgson and rein 'there-abouts'. Like I have looked at it from every angle and that just makes no sense

It's an interesting signing. His defensive work rate may take on more value once interchanges are reduce. That said, hookers who can expose tired forwards from dummy half will also have increased value and Macca does not fit into this category.

So hard to know if he'll become more valuable, less or just stay the same. I think the short length reflects that.

I dunno what it is about Peats that I like, he just comes across as a really smart hooker, lightning fast out of dummy half and huge defensively, his kicking game is non-existent (Much like McCullough), he's a pretty similar overall player to McCullough imo, just a bit nippier.

I would disagree.
I get the feeling that the majority of us are more critical of our own players than players in other teams just because we are watching them like Hawks. We don't see the little faults in opposition players because we don't put them under the same microscope.
This is not a criticism BTW as I am guilty of it myself.
I do feel Macca and Maranta are judged harshly by our forum
