My 2 cents - I disagree with Coxy that teams 3 and 4 deserve any more advantage (ie garuntee not to get knocked out) than 5-8. I like the McIntyre system. I like the different potential scenarios ie if ABCD win then this happens, but if EFGD win, then this happens etc etc.
To me in the AFL system the week 1 matches for teams 1-4 are superfluous. If they are all going through to the next week anyway, why not give them the week off instead of having them beat up on each other and potentially lose some of the best players through injuries etc?
But as I said - just my opinion on Top 8 systemes (I still think it's ridiculous that half of the competition can make the finals in the first place, but that's a whole other arguement)
