OFFICIAL Mitch Barnett signs two-year deal with Broncos

For the same 'experience' reasoning, should we consider trying to lure Capes back from the Warriors on a cheap 2 year 400-500k deal? I think he is only signed until end of this year at the warriers for ~600k. He's getting on, but is an upgrade on our existing options.
We've just signed the experienced Barnett. Would be unwise to sign another 32 year old forward.

Not a bad idea. Luke Garner is still available from Penrith I think as well.

All that would result in is BHQ complaining about him for the next two years ... Just like many many people did on here during Capes last year at the club

I'm sure that is inevitable. The first tackle Piakura misses will have the same send him into the sun posts.

We definitely shouldn't over pay for him, but I'm not so sure on that. If we lose Haas (who is reportedly our best trainer), Hunt and Reyno, who are we relying on driving team standards? Carrigan? None of the existing crop fill me with any level of confidence....including Carrigan.

In his article about the Warriors identifying Anderson as their preferred player swap (since we won't release Verhoeven),

Peter Badel says:

Barnett’s move to Brisbane does not hinge on a player transfer, but Warriors chief executive Cameron George remains hopeful the Broncos will come to the party with a gentlemen’s agreement.

Cameron George said:

“We’re just not going to take anybody,”

“I know the Broncos have had a meeting about it and I’m just still waiting to find out where they are at with everything.

“Both clubs are being very reasonable and fair.

“We know we’re not going to get a $1 million player out of them, but at the same time it’s all part of the business and the Broncos know a deal has to be done.

“It hasn’t been lost on me the Mitch situation, that’s not in jeopardy.

“However, we think it’s a fair decision to take and we expect Brisbane to be reasonable as well, otherwise the shoe could be on the other foot one day and it doesn’t work for anyone.”

The Warriors have a roster spot open this year. Cameron George said

“Yes absolutely there is the opportunity to accommodate someone this year and beyond,” he said.

“We are just waiting on the Broncos to confirm what that could look like.

“We’re not letting Mitch go this year but if they (Broncos) need to consider (releasing) a player for this year, we are open to suggestions.”

Gentlemen's agreement lol

It's the ****ing players you have to convince moron

This whole thing seems like Cameron George thought about the player swap thing completely after the fact. Like they granted Barnett the release and a few days later someone was like “Chur bro you should asked for a player hey like the Eels are” so he was like “oh yeah we would like a player”

I think its just the fact they are willing to release him this year in exchange. Its always been the case during the whole negotiations from what i was told. Its business and it makes sense.

For an immediate release this year, then I would agree that a player swap could be fair and this is where player loans would actually be easier though.

The loan player's pay or contract with the parent club doesn't change and they aren't required to be with the loan club for any longer than this year, so whilst there is moving and finding a new place to live, etc. it's only temporary.

For the player it's also an opportunity to get more game time if there isn't a spot in the parent team each week.

I’ve not once seen them say they are willing to release him this year. Everything he says is very specifically we will not release him this year but we are willing to take a player early if that’s what works for the Broncos because they have a roster spot open.
