Rising NRL star Daniel Mortimer has signed a two-year deal with Parramatta Eels after knocking back an offer from the Bulldogs.

The twenty-year-old had been weighing up offers from Parramatta and the Bulldogs, the club where his father Peter and uncles Steve and Chris won premierships.

Mortimer has reportedly decided to stay with Paramatta on a deal worth an estimated $500,000.

So a guy who has played 18 first grade games signs a $250,000 a year deal? Wow...

...Mortimer is definately the most influential player in Rugby League right now. He DESERVES THAT KIND OF MONEY.

The Eels as a team are just Awesome and their salary cap should be double any other team. We as the fans should be proud to know that we follow a sport with such a great team in it.

Congrats on getting the believed $250,000 a year Mortimer. Its short of what your worth but its a start.

Interesting to see only a two year deal. This leaves him open to signing with the Bears when they rejoin the comp. Or at least using them as a bargaining tool against Parra.

Now that you say that I do recall reading that Greg Florimo was encouraging him to only sign for two years with whoever so that he's available to be the marquee signing for the Bears alleged return to the NRL.

But seriously, this guy has played 18 games!!! Do I even need to make a list of all the players that have looked like world beaters after 18 games only to fade into obscurity? Good luck to him for signing the deal but if he was a Bronco and we tied up that much of the cap to him I don't think I'd be thrilled

You're right about Flo, that was in the paper a week ago.

As for the big money deal, remember that it's a media estimate.

That may be so - but it's Parramatta we're talking about here. Their desperation to win for the first time since Christ was born would lead me to believe it's not too far from the mark

I'm guessing if the $500K figure is remotely accurate that's taking into account all bonuses for rep selection and other KPIs.

It's a win now league. Who cares what happens in 2 or 3 years, if your club is winning now it means more money now.

Personally I think Mortimer is worth it for Parra - it was because of him that Hayne was allowed to get all the glory
