Most improved player under the Bennett Regime

My point being that Thaiday and Glenn both showed this sort of form circa 2011 (when Bennett was not their coach). They both dropped off dramatically, and Bennett has restored them to that same form, but they have not exceeded that form from 4 years ago. Yet. So I can't say that he's improved them, at least in terms of their peak. Consistency, yes, but no one is playing better than they ever have before (again, except Maranta).

I suppose "potential" is finite, and the art of good coaching is to teach a player how to reach their potential. To get Thaiday and Glenn back close let's say, to their potential is no small thing.

As for potential and peaking, there's a limit, and I don't think either have got to that high point yet this year. This is a work in progress team as are its individual members, yet the changes under Bennett are for mine, remarkable ... so far.

As well, and one of my few criticisms of Bennett ... so far, is how well you can play depends in large part on the opportunities you are given. There are some major positives, especially for Glenn, with Milford at 5/8 yet our right hand side seems to lag behind, so, is the potential of say Gillett being improved, is his game peaking because he is getting the chances consistently to show his running game and ball playing skills?

Anyway, I think Bennett has does really well to get Thaiday and Glenn back to, or rather closer, to their potential. It's a crucial element for us which reflects why we are running 2nd.

I think the right hand side dropped off because Hunt is playing mostly first receiver and milford mostly left hand side. means that much more frequently it goes left and when it goes right it has fewer play makers involved. Gillett is doing a fair bit of decoy running instead of hitting holes but frequently is being put in space. a few times v raiders although not eventuated into tries.

I'm touch and go with Maranta.

Largely because he wasn't that bad in 2014. He produced one shocker against Melbourne @ Suncorp but otherwise he was very solid and eliminated a lot of clangers that plagued his game in 2013.

I suppose if he gets through this season without having any shockers it's an improvement but does that really come down to Bennett? Or just experience?

On the other hand, I believe Bennett is getting a lot more out of Oates in comparison to what Hook did in 2014.

For me his progression has gone something along the lines of..

2013 - Terrible, far too many missed scoring opportunities
2014 - Average, safe under the high ball, still not offering a whole lot in attack
2015 - Good, extremely safe under the high ball, able to finish most tries without issue
2016 - ?
2017 - President of the United States of America

I agree with the general consensus of thaiday/Glenn/maranta showing improvement under bennett but I think Gillett could be doing more in attack, milford tends to hold off and only strike when there's room on the left side. Even Barba as average as he was was able to utilise Gillett in attack with short balls and inside balls. The bloke can hit holes, just needs the ball.

I also think Macca has stepped up a bit this year, unsure if it's because of bennett, the cam smith "rumour" or niko/Parcell on the bench but he's providing quality service, minus the White line fever at least once a game.

Glenn has the most metres for a Bronco forward and is second to Cooper for runs overall for his position.

2 try assists, 3 line breaks, 16 tackle breaks.
303 tackles at 92%
139m pg and 27 tackles pg.

He's improved I think for two reasons, he's getting more consistent service from his halves and in defence he using better technique and much more simple.

So who do you think is the most improved under Bennett?

Depth has been the biggest improver. Previously the Broncos could call on any player who was in the top squad and the job would be done. Over the last few years the Broncos have lost that; to the point were they couldn't even use the bench with any confidence. The top 17 was it.

Anytime in the previous couple of years does Nikorima and Parcell come in and get 30 minutes and look fine? I don't think so.

Player once told me that Bennett could pick you in a position you had never played before pick you in a huge game against the best player in the world and by Sunday afternoon Bennett would have you convinced that you were the best centre in the world.

^^ This.

I remember earlier in the season in an interview WB had said that Griffin complained about how hard it was to take off quality players, albeit tired, and replace them with what he had to work with on the bench.

With WB, it was only R3 or 4 before I said it felt good for a change that Brisbane could actually use their bench with confindence knowing they could hold their own.

I think I even look forward to a Wallace running onto the field these days.

Well Reed and Vidot put themselves as potentials in this category last night. I honestly think that was the best game of Vidots career

I agree. It was probably Reeds best game too. Didn't put a foot wrong and he's making it very hard to not be a part of the 17. I must admit I wanted Reed gone due to his lack of attacking spark, but full credit to him as it looks like he's worked hard on that aspect, and he's very quickly changing my mind. I think I'm now a fan of the left edge combination Milford, Glenn and Reed have got. They look very dangerous everytime they touch the ball and Reed is doing well setting up his outside winger.
