Been doing a bit of research on Hodges. I think the Broncos have about a 70% + win ratio with him in the side and everybody would agree that when he plays the Broncos are a far better side.

BUT how many games in the past two seasons has he played for the Broncos?????

2008 - Suspended for 8 games at least with that spear tackle and the finger to the ref
2009 - injured again and i reckon would of played 15 max games for the Broncos in regular season.
2010 - Out til at least round 20

Now before everyone has a go at me, I AM FULLY AWARE HE CANT BE BLAMED FOR THE INJURIES. Just wondering how much we would have to pay to keep Hodges at the Broncos keeping in mind i reckon he would of been lucky to play 60% of the Broncos games the past two years.

Dont get me wrong i think hodges is a leader and with locky is heads and shoulders above every other Bronco on the field when he plays but i just hate seeing him sitting on the sideline for such long periods of the season knowing he would have to be such a big part of our salary cap!!!!!!!!!!

I think there is a couple of key players that the Broncos need to re-sign no matter what. The obvious ones are Thaiday, Parker and Hodges.............but If Teo keeps playing the way he is at the moment i think he would be a big signing and the other is Andrew McCullough. I think he is with out a doubt a future origin player and i would hate to see him leave after all the effort we have put into him!!!!!

Are you serious? Gagai, Hala and Lui are all awesome as if you would release them. Why would you renew Sims? The only way I would renew him is put him on an incentive based deal, because he is a 200k waste of space at the moment.

Lingwoodock is a beast of a kid and a great talent and people are already talking about releasing him? He hasn't even been close to first grade yet!

This thread has merit but I think its a bit tough to make these kind of long term decisions when the seasons haven't played out. Perhaps a thread with the player movements of the last 2 years would be better.

Doesn't your observation sort of make the point of the thread though. Everyone gives Bruno a good kicking, but he and the rest of the recruiting team have to make exactly these types of decisions. Sometimes they will get it right, sometimes they will get it wrong. Joel Clinton could have been an awesome signing for us if he had of shown the form he showed in the early 2000's at Penrith. Unfortunately it did not work out. Similarly, Setu looks like it might have been a gamble that may not pay off.

Please...honestly if it wasn't for Hodges we wouldn't have the premiership in 2006. He has been a gun at club level for so long, and during our slump last season he was the only one who looked like he gave a damn. So much negativity on this forum towards some great players, it is so disappointing.

This is a good thread, but before we decide who we should keep isn't also important to see who is available from other clubs which would greatly influence the outcome. I mean would you keep Simms if say Aiden Tolman, Jeff Lima, Kevin Proctor, Kade Snowden or David Shillington were available for simular money?

What about Gerard Beale, Josh Hoffman or Steve Michaels, would you keep them or get the likes of William Zillman, Josh Dugan, Jarrod Croker or Blake Ferguson.

How about Ben Te'o, Lagi Setu or Dunamis Lui, would you rather them or Mark Minichiello, Ashley Harrison, Issac Luke, Yileen Gordon, Scott Bolton, Glenn Stewart, Bronson Harrison, Jeremy Smith or Joel Thompson.

Ok, these are just a few guys that are going well, most are not big names, just solid first graders in most cases. It’s one thing to say who you should keep and it’s another to know who is available and what they bring to the club.

Personally I like Tolman and Snowden and I know that Tolman is out of contract the end of this year.

Te’o has been inconsistent and Setu has been worse, comes out of the line too many times to put on a big hit, misses and leaves a gap, would not be upset if he was cut. Simms has only really had a handful of good games, the rest has been forgettable, I think his time is limited if we could find a replacement such as Tolman, I'd be taking it. McGuire has yet to impress but I’m happy enough to give him at least another season, forwards take longer to mature. Beale has not impressed so far, ask me again later in the season, but so far reminds me of Moon and Emmett, has potential but failed to deliver. Michaels has been given too many chances and would be one of the first cut IMO.

Parker and Thaiday are a must and Thaiday needs to get back to second row, he is wasted in the front row. The other young players should be retained.

I still think that there should be enough money left under the cap to get say Civoniceva, Thronc and Tolman, retain the young players and start looking for a replacement for Lockyer.
