Hey So I have on good authority that the Brisbane Broncos have changed their name to the Brisbane Patients.

They are trying to develop an exclusive top 30 consisting of only injured players. So far big money recruits Darius Boyd, Matt Gillett, Jack Bird have all signed big money, long term deals.

Expect Payne Hass to also sign a 4 year, $3 million deal shortly.

A recent season ending ankle injury sees Jayden Sua's chance of signing increase drastically.

In other news TPJ is likely to sign with another team as his hamstrings appear to have recovered.

In good news for Ashton Sims, his broken arm has recovered well and has now been moved on to another club.

Okay but seriously... In the past 12 months we have signed 4 players on 4 year, $3million ish type deals all while they are injured... What the actual ****?

Is this worthy of a topic starter? Maybe you should voice your concerns to Red Hill even though it doesn't seem to be the least bit concerning from where I'm sitting. These players aren't in traction or a wheelchair. They have sustained injuries which funnily enough occur in a front on physical sport such as RL.

Have you seen Boyd? I'd argue he is in a wheelchair. Also, who knows how Gillet, Bird or Haas will Fair after injury...it's just a lot of money for a long deal

You're bad at jokes

Honestly, I got a good chuckle out of this thread, awesome work.

Satirical journalism is hard to do right, don’t be fooled by how easy guys like Phil Rothfield and Peter Badel make it look.

The question is do we get an effective discount for signing while injured to justify what must be a significant added risk. At end of day have to respond to the market as well.

Yes rugby league is a physical sport but you don’t buy a car without a roadworthy cert and a good look under the bonnet. Agree this year Boyd and Bird have been catastrophically bad used of money and I think it’s fair for questions to be asked. Maybe it’s just life but rather audit it to make sure there isn’t some bad processes that will screw us more in future.

Yeah obviously injuries are part of the game, I just question offering huge contracts to players who are currently injured, especially injuries that can have huge impacts, such as hamstrings and neck (boyd/Gillett), and especially with their age. Signing Haas on huge money is obviously due to the market and potential and all that, and whilst his injury is a serious one too, at least he has youth on his side. Boyd and Gillett do not, and for all we know Gillett will never come back properly and we have him for 4 more seasons... Boyd is literally a shot duck atm too.

You know how a car can have a spare tire? Why don't these players have a spare shoulder or hamstring?
