New Coaching options

If Henjak decides to get a clue anytime soon I am happy for him to stay. I want to see him grow nuts make the big calls. I still can't believe he played Steve Michaels for so long last year.
who was that other coach who played steve michaels for even longer........?[/quote:hfltb3yk]

Yeah but Michaels played like a tard last year before his injury he was not too bad.[/quote:hfltb3yk]
michaels was a tard from the moment he missed his first tackle, which coincided with the moment he attempted his first tackle.[/quote:hfltb3yk]

Maybe in 2009, but once again, 2007-08 he was good before his injury.

once again, good for michaels was sub-par for any other regular first grader.

in your almighty opinion!!

I think Ivan needs more time. I am in favour of a new coach at any club being given 3 years without the pressure of possibly being sacked. If you can't get results by year 3, then look around. But Ivan has to be given time to show us what he can do. That's my general statement - as for more specifics, I don't really think he's done much wrong anyway. The club had a terrible patch last year that he managed to get them out of and they came close to the GF. This year should be judged after 15 or 20 rounds, not 5 - and certainly not the 5 we've had given the injury toll.

I'm happy with Alfie as skills coach and would love to see Petero return for a cameo year and become forwards coach after that. No opinion on defensive coach

The only problem I have with Henjak is his questionable selections of the bench, and sometimes the entire side overall. I love that he brings rookies through though, in a couple of years we could be back to our best with these guys developing.

I would sack Henjak in a heartbeat to have Bellamy. Not even that long. Though the chances of that now seem to be very remote.

Henjak has done a couple of good things so far and his willingness to go to youngsters like Gillett and Lui is very promising. He's also made some pretty rookie errors. He's by no means a bad coach, but he's not necessarily a good coach either.

The main issue I have with Henjak is that I don't know what he's about, and I'm not sure he does either. Bellamy absolutely knows what he wants, and how to go about it. He has a Rugby League philosophy and I think it spreads from his on field tactics to the team unity in the locker room and all the way down to the lesser squad and reserve players. Players like Norrie, Lowrie, Cahill and Proctor aren't part of a table topping team because they are awesome forwards, but because they are awesomely coached forwards, who know exactly what the game plan is and what their role is.

I don't think you can say the same of Henjak and his players. His game plan basically seems to be to play basic football and hope our best players are fit and then let them do their thing. It's not bad coaching, but it's not great coaching either, and the main problem is that he doesn't take basic football far enough. Bellamy has meticulous turned basic (nee: boring) into an art. It's a genuine platform for everything they do, for every player in their squad.

Henjak doesn't really have a platform, and until he decides what he wants his to be, he can't really start building anything. His trust in youth players, though, will certainly bode well if he's able to find his M.O.

As for other coaches, it's stupid IMO to suggest names. Those coaches should be chosen by Henjak, and he should choose the people who he feels are best able to implement the philosophy he envisions for the Broncos moving forward. To use any other criteria would go against everything we should be working towards.

Bennett used to do the same thing. Except he rarely gave a young fella a shot like Henjak does.

I am a hardmarker so I haven't seen enough from Henjak to think wow this bloke can coach. What is the game plan?? Why has nothing been doen to fix up the defence?? Sure he is happy to bring in young players but they will be playing in a losing cause if Henjak doesn't get some structure into the team and fix our defence. Sure we were one game off a Grand Final last year but that run of losses we had were so so bad, why does it have to get so bad before changes are made??

It looks like Henjaks style of play is pass it to Lockyer who will set something up! I'd love to see some attacking kicks used more!! His style of play shoudl be evident this year IMO. I really wish he could sort out our hopeless defence though

What redeemed Henjak in my eyes was the team's performance last year against the Dragoons in THAT game. That to me showed he can come up with a good game plan, get the players to play to it, and get them to play for each other.

In THAT game, the defence was simply superb.

I like what he has done this year with so many “rookies”. He needs our support.

I think comparisons of Henjak and Bellamy are a little harsh... especially if you are comparing him with the Bellamy of 2010. It is easy to forget that Bellamy took a few years to mould the Storm into the side they are today. And also there have been plenty of reports that Bellamy was way too intense when he first started and took a few years to find a good balance in his approach. Henjak and the Broncos need a little time to get there... probably a successful year in 2010 would be to make the top 8 and hope the young guys get a taste of finals football and come back keener in 2011... maybe even dare to dream if they sneak into the bottom half of the top 8 and the big boys are firing and Hodges is super keen they may make a late charge...

Just hard to see how many u/20s players can step up in one year to the defensive efforts required to consistently win NRL games. The middle 20mins of the Dragons game was a great example of some talented young guys who went to sleep against a disciplined side and paid very dearly for it.

Henjak was the wrong option from the beginning as was the decision to push the worlds best coach prematurely. A rookie, untried ,untested and out of his depth used to replace the most successful coach since Herods all conquering side of 14bc !! (minor premiers and grand-final winners for three years straight)

I like the style of Henry, Furner is proving popular and resourceful with fewer options than most and Bellamys turning out champions on a 6 monthly basis so any of them would do. I still want WB back and , this I'm certain of, he will make a return when everyone is totally sick of our underachieving mismanaged rabble we call the 2010 Broncos. It seems inevitable.

WB left at the right time. His doing well at the dragons because its a fresh challange. Something new.

Im glad he left while we still have Lockyer here to lead the team around the park.
