Under the yet-to-be-finalised system, captains could be given the opportunity to challenge one on-field decision per game.

Other changes coming in next year, include a total ban on players being tackled in the air ,
and the introduction of a 20/40 rule in addition to the existing 40/20 rule.

There is also a new scrum feed option that Annesley said coaches were already excited about.
Under the change, the team with the feed will be given five seconds to nominate where they'd like to pack the scrum from three lateral positions in-field: the nearest 10-metre line, the 20-metre line, or in line with the black dot on the crossbar.
It's a change that will undoubtedly lead to the creation of new attacking scrum plays, with teams having more say on where they attack from.

I was only thinking today even the scrum location can have a pretty significant impact.

If you're looking to setup for a field goal you could theoretically put the scrum in front of the black dot and have a free shot from right in front with no pressure.

The scrum will act as a 6 person wall in front of your kicker

The no tackle in the air rule is gonna be real tricky .
It is a big change .

The no push in the scrum rule ,and coming in 20 m instead of 10 yards was sposed to create attacking opportunities from scrums . Led to props standing at 1st receiver .
Will watch with interest .

Yeah the no tackle in the air has been getting a bit of discussion in the NRL general thread (link below)... and by discussion I mean it's been getting ripped to shreds

Will they ever get rid of the 7 tackle sets from ball going dead in goal....
I'm ok with a 7 tackle set on kicks that go dead or caught on the full (including field goals), because there is risk vs reward... but there is no way in hell the opposition deserve a 7 tackle set for errors in the in goal.

It's like "well you didn't stop them from getting over the try line and had they held onto it they probably score, so to reward your garbage defense we'll give you an extra tackle"

With the stupid no tackling in the air rule, we pretty much have to go with Coates on the wing, don't we? Guaranteed free tries, until they change it again.

It will be Boyd and he won't ever jump for anything and you will love it.

Oh shit, thought you said Oates. Never mind, I agree.

To be honest, Oates can probably catch the ball better than most 2nd rowers....so I have a new idea.

Let's have a 1-17 that are all leapers and catchers. Unless the fullback and the wingers are covering the entire width of the field at once, there's almost literally nothing the opposition can do!

Only a matter of time before the no shoulder charge in attack becomes real
