New TV deal brings salary cap up to $7m?

the salary cap is a godamn joke. It rewards mediocre business.
The one change I would make for the cap, is to exempt players that are brought through the club ranks. This would prevent the richer clubs to poach players from the financially less powerful clubs.

The one thing I would change about the cap is that I would not have one.

I don't know if this would work. It probably wouldn't. I really just wanted to call them all losers.

Except Foxtel. I like Foxtel.

They are losers they have Braybrook & Belcher as commentators.

They bring us the 5 games that ch 9 don't and they even show them live

That hardly makes them losers

Ch 9 who consistently give a big F*** YOU to the fans in Vic, WA and SA are the losers

Every time that is discussed as an option, teams like the Roosters and Sharks blow up deluxe because they have very limited junior development catchments. And technically the Broncos and Storm have no junior catchments at all.

When the idea is expanded to enable clubs to use their "feeder clubs" as qualification, clubs like Penrith blow up deluxe because they have groomed a big junior catchment and think it should only be players who have come through from like under 12s that get exempted.

Agree with you though. IMO, any player signed under 18 or 17 by a club on a scholarship etc, if they then make their NRL debut for that club, their salary is exempt from the cap until they sign elsewhere.

I'll make you a deal, You watch the sunday game with commericals thrown in and on delay...

Those of us with Foxtel will watch it live and without breaks.

Ummmmm - pretty sure the deal is that Foxtel is not allowed to show any games that are "Channel 9" games before Ch 9 shows them - so no-one gets to watch that particular match live.

Hopefully all that changes with the new tv deal.

There's no way that will change.

Exactly. It changed with AFL with Foxtel to be broadcasting every match live regardless of whoever else is showing it.

I really hope we get a deal like that.

From what I understand, it depends what state. At the moment Foxtel can show the AFL live in Queensland on Friday nights because 7 doesn't show it until 11pm at the earliest. If they showed it at 8.30 or 9.30 Foxtel wouldn't be allowed to show it before them. I really doubt 7, 9 or 10 will stand for Foxtel being allowed to show "their" games before they do, and if they do this TV deal will be worth SFA.
