CROSS FORUM NRL 2022 Round 19 Discussion

On a hopeful note, is this the beginning of the end of favourable refs calls for the cowboys? 🙏

They are the one club that I would genuinely expect to boycott the NRL if they had shit go against them like what happened to the Tigers tonight

I watched Holmes get interviewed by Matty Johns and you could just tell there was a part of him that wanted to apologise to Tigers players and fans

There isn't a single coach, player or fan from the Cowboys who will believe they won the game fair and square, both the refs will probably be stood down and they'll make sure no team is ever able to challenge on a no-call in live play ever again, does nothing for the Tigers though

didn't they say that the last time a challenge was allowed from a no-call.

also Klein will somehow magically escape punishment for his incompetence yet again

I can't really recall it happening before, I think it's fine as long as there's a stoppage in play somewhere

if they just did away wit the bs challenge calls and the bunker none of this bs we had to witness this year happens to be honest.

the whole system has made the game way less enjoyable to watch. you cant even fuckin celebrate a try any more as a viewer until you see the little try confirmed bs in the corner of the screen.

we are making a relatively simple game complex as **** for no good reason.

I got no doubt they want the players to wear some of the responsibility for howlers by giving them the option to have 1 incorrect challenge per game, however when shit happens like it did in the Tigers game, that's squarely on the refs

the majority of the talk seems to be around the bunker call itself rather than the fact that no challenge was permitted under the rules

I hope Annersley addresses why the challenge was allowed to begin with because I haven't seen anything that suggests it should have been, the call in the bunker itself probably wasn't the right call but to me that's irrelevant

Surprised how wound up I still am by that decision. This was cathartic though.

It's 1:20 from when the try is awarded so that still gave them time for a kick off.
Source? I can't find anything where a definite time is stated.

Edit: Everything I've read says the clock will stop after the kick is taken.

Goal-kicking time limit: The referee will call time-off at about one minute, 20 seconds following a try. Fines will still apply to clubs when a player takes longer than 1:40 to take a conversion.

It was brought in back in 2014.

Cheers. It says "about 1:20", which suggests to me that it's discretionary. Has it been confirmed that the referee did in fact call time-off before the siren?

Tiger's temp coach was fantastic in the press conference. Praised how good the Tigers were, how they stood up for their captain.

This is where the brass at the top make the heavy call, I hope they go all guns blazing. This may be the genuine first chance a result is overturned maybe?

An NRL spokesperson said the Captains Challenge was permissible in these circumstances.

“The captain can challenge decisions by the referee to stop the play,” the spokesman said.

“Although the referee had blown his whistle to stop the game after the last tackle was completed as time had expired, he had not yet called full-time. “The whole concept of the Captains Challenge is to make sure any decision by the referee that stops the game can be reviewed. To not do so would effectively deny a team the right to have an officiating error corrected on the last play of a game just because time had expired.

“There are multiple examples of games continuing after time has expired following an infringement. These include incidences of foul play or other penalisable rule breaches.

“The obstruction decision itself will be reviewed as a matter of course on Monday.”

:rofl :rofl :rofl

I gotta say really fucking happy about the way the nrl community has reacted to this. For ONCE the nrl is being forced into acknowledging how shit they are. Sign of the times with social media forcing their hand on this one, no doubt it would be swept under the rug otherwise.

I hope feldt and the Cowboys enjoyed their celebration bcos the amount of attention this has gotten means they will be under a lot more scrutiny and pressure going into the end of the season lol. Imagine celebrating like that after scraping a "win" over the tigers at home anyway ffs

This is weasel words and I'm sure it's not quite what they have said in the past. I'm also sure we have been told more than once "you can't challenge that because I didn't make the decision".

If Cowboys challenged the decision to stop the play, why are they looking at anything else except the clock? Ball was in the air, time expired, therefore when the catch is made the game is finished. The ref did not make a call on an escort, neither did the touchie as far as I saw, so that was not a call and therefore could not be challenged?

Aside from the bullshit "Feldt was denied". **** denied himself by falling over because he was never going to get there, the kick was too deep. How about Hess coming through with an arm just before Laurie was trying to catch a kick, didn't that deny him the opportunity to catch the ball cleanly?

Deadset these muppets are destroying the game. I hope the Tigers sue and I hope the result is overturned, I doubt there would be much pushback from the Cows.

I think you overestimate the Cowboys
