CROSS FORUM NRL 2022 Round 20 Discussion

I honestly dislike this "intent" talk around dangerous elements of the game. It counts for nothing. Plus, how can you eliminate bad tackling techniques from the game if it is based on "intent" and not simply punished on the tackle itself. Like, how do they know what Cleary intended? He put his arm through the legs and sought a better grip, then he flipped the guy up and drove him into the ground. Surely, if he didn't intend a spear tackle, he would have stopped at a point along that timeline and thought, no, I shall not drive this guy into the ground. Jarrod Wallace, big brain that he is, even let go on his and fell on the player through imbalance instead of driving into the ground, because he realised he had caused a dangerous position.

It is a completely different thing when you compare JWH with the arm on the throat, or twisting ankles. THAT is intent, and he just gets fined.

WTF kind of a stupid organisation is this?

Our 38-0 win over Manly

I was at that game, everything just went perfectly from the get go

I don't have any stats but I feel like a lot of our games have started with the other team scoring and we've had to wrestle back the momentum

Our best is better than the Eels best. No question in my mind.
As much I would like to agree with you I can't see us beating a full strength Penrith at home and Storm before thier injuries at home like Parra. We are more consistent but they have higher upside.

Parra got flogged by Tigers and doggies though.
NRL math doesn't work like that.

They are a bogey team, and a lazy one at that.
They turn up just enough to beat melbourne and penrith and dont turn up at all against teams at the bottom of the ladder.

I reckon its going to come down to us and the Sharks.

Grade 3. Brandy stretching calling it a 2

Not much of a stretch. It's very likely he will be charged with a Grade 2. They showed examples of Grade 3 charges and Grade 2 charges and Cleary's looks a lot more like the Grade 2 examples. How Brown landed will help him when it comes to deciding whether to charge Grade 3 or 2. Plus, it's Cleary.

We'll find out very soon either way.

I would disagree. The grade 2 they showed with Wallace, Wallace let go and did not drive into the ground. The grade 3 they showed on Turbro13 was because Turbo was moving forward with momentum and he was driven with that force as well. Cleary stops the momentum, changes his hand position, lifts and drives and does not release his grip while driving. I could give a crap about where the player fortunately lands, that could break a neck if he lands any different.

The reality with the shitty MRC will probably be different.

This, he carried on with the tackle and drove him into the ground. It looks really bad when you ignore who the racket was. This is where our unconscious biases kick in. Imagine if it was a Hetherington (dogs), Radley, or JWH type player. Or even our man Flegler. I think the commentary around the tackle would be at another level.

Also, Dylan Brown did Nathan a massive solid. He could have easily laid on the ground much longer and just given off that really stunned vibe even if he wasn’t injured. I think a lot of other players would have, and just milked the moment for much longer which would have ramped up our immediate impression of the severity of the tackle. I hope Nathan sends him some flowers and chocolates in the mail.

not really impressive by the eels to have a man advantage for over an hour should have been 50 put on the panthers as it was they were lucky it wasnt closer if not for poor hands and a obstruction
