CROSS FORUM NRL 2022 Round 20 Discussion

What a trash game from Roosters. Full strength, coordinated Manly win that.

We play them next week... Collins looks to be out, Butcher and JWH should both cop suspensions for their absolute garbage plays... but we all know they will only end up fining Uncle Nick instead
Yeah, JWH in a Broncos Jersey never plays NRL again. Worst thing about him is that he does it on purpose, this isn't Napa head but stuff, nor Radley high-shot stuff. His grub is intentional, and so dangerous.

How wasn't Napa's headbutt not intentional?

What I mean is that Napa didn't intend to headbutt the opposition in the head, he just has a shit style and launches himself like that, in comparison, JWH literally levels elbows at people's head.

And here's your narrative for NSWRL's finest

I take your point that it's different but I don't think neither Napa or Radley deserve to be excused for their tackles. They went in with an intention and to try and excuse that by blaming technique is really just shifting the goal posts.

Yeah, I think we're talking along different lines. I don't doubt Napa went in to hurt the guys he did, I just don't think he had the same thought process that JWH has, i.e. HOW can I be sure I hurt this guy in this tackle?

Similar to the Finucane head clash, it is an entirely different thing to go in for a big hit and end up smashing heads, than it is to go into a big hit and grind your elbow into a guys throat, or raise your knees going in. JWH does the intentional stuff all the time. Even those crocodile rolls holding a foot. That's the difference I'm talking about.

Not excusing. Just saying it is worse.

DCE is always so impressive in interviews.
If you get a chance to watch it do yourselves a favour. I'm sure there will be a transcript, but to highlight:
"I think we need to be really careful about how much we push onto the players to commercialise the game. If you look at a dressing room as an NRL squad, it is very diverse and it is inclusive, so I just wonder how much we need to do as athletes to push out there, because we already are a lot of things of what we try to represent."

The obvious exception is that gay players don't feel comfortable coming out in an NRL environment.

IMO, you're right, it does come down to feeling safe to be who you are and gay players could (probably are) still hiding within these rooms, but should everyone really have to share their private lives?

I found his answer was diplomatic, if incomplete, and in that situation was probably the best response to make under the circumstances. He doesn't speak for every player, but it could easily be seen to be so HAD he spoken out one way or the other. Plus, I'm sure those 7 guys are his mates, and he is the captain. He shifted the blame back onto a more faceless enemy.

I found it very intelligent.

Are they not out to their team mates? I’m a bit confused, cos I thought that there are gay players, the inner circle knows about them, but they don’t want to be out publicly because of the furore.
I could be wrong tho.
