OFFICIAL NRL announces record-high salary caps for 2023 season

Don't forget though, the men didn't get that quickly either. It takes a long time to generate the interest required for this. I agree it should be the focus, but it also has to be because the interest is there.

What I'm trying to say is the women shouldn't get it because the men get it, the women should get it because the women deserve it, when that may be.
Men didn't get that quickly because back then the TV game was stupidly conservative, before the 80s live sports on TV was considered non existent anywhere world wide, once the broadcasting world caught up on what people wanted the sports starting rolling in the cash, Rugby league for the men could of easily been professional decades earlier had actual thinking humans been in charge.

Doesn't change the point though that the women are not attracting the interest of the men's game, therefore not bringing in the $$$ of the men's game, therefore not deserving of the same pay.
Totally agree that the game has been mismanaged for decades and could be miles ahead of it's own timeline. Of course, it's still being mismanaged now so as much as I agree, it doesn't factor in to the $$$ for men vs women debate :)

There's no doubt the NRL try to win the women over for the benefit of the future of the game, of course it will never be said by anyone in the NRL but you just got to be able to put 2 and 2 together

The women's game isn't bringing in a great deal yet the players are getting a significant pay rise, it doesn't really make too much sense

No one is arguing for equal pay except idiots who don't understand grade 3 maths.

Their current pay rise is fine even if it's a bit over the revenue they make, the idea is to get them professional so they can play fulltime which will increase the quality and players who want to play.

Agreed mate

Appears that the NRL havnt followed through with finishing the CBA after Christmas. Clubs and players agreed to the pay increase, but the rest of the agreement has stalled - again :xxxx:

Incompetence but else would you expect from these guys in charge?

the players have reportedly started boycotting planned NRL media events.

the Sharks were the first team to do it, after refusing to take part in a planned photograph and interview session for the NRL website on monday

The players waited until the photographer had set up his equipment at Shark Park, before Wade Graham informed him that the players had chosen not to participate.

The Dragons the followed suit on Monday night, cancelling a media opportunity scheduled for the following day. a Dragons official confirmed that the cancellation was due to the CBA standoff with the NRL.

Rothfield reporting that if things continue, the players could boycott the Official season launch and all promotional activity in the build up to the premiership kickoff

Its a shit show. Ive been told the NRL aren't returning phone calls or emails to RLPA. Then when they do its on their terms and trying to push it through without addressing RLPA concerns. Allegedly the NRL guaranteed they would be working on it over the break - but turns out some of the drafting wasn't even touched until yesterday.

wait while I put on my shocked face.

The NRL and the game doesn't have the money for the increase, Vlando is still trying to work out where it's going to come from.

NRL are lazy with public release of annual PnL/Report. Might not be until February.

I think projected annual income is 650ish million. With projected 220mil in bank - mainly thanks to gambling advertising during covid.
