Bellamy to coach on at the Storm next year

At a time when all the focus is on the coaching situation at Canterbury, Craig Bellamy has ended speculation about his immediate future.

I don't rate the Bulldogs' recruitment just as I didn't like the Knights' recruitment over the last 5 years or so.

A lot of people were saying that the Knights were getting some smart signings, like when they started with Ese'Ese from us, Guerra, Lillyman, Glasby, SKD, Mann etc. But the majority of them were lured away from their clubs when they weren't necessary high priority retentions, but didn't necessary want to lose. So the Knights had to pay overs for them. They were low-to-middle-tier players in middle-to-high tier money. You can't start a culture by recruiting players who are only coming for the money. Either they get lazy, or they play well and leave for the next highest bidder.

The Dogs had so much money tied up from insane Hasler contracts that they were rooted. Somehow they managed to unload some of them, the Tigers were dumb enough to make Mbye their problem etc, and when they finally had cleared a bit of room, they spent it like an addict on payday. Like the Knights, they went after players that were definitely improvements on their current players, but again had to spend overs to entice them over.

You could absolutely argue Burton was a good signing, and worth the money as they jagged him at the right time. The others though, it's the same story - low-to-middle tier players being paid like superstars. It's no surprise that few of them are playing like the jersey means anything to them. It doesn't, it's the pay packet that won them over. I know Addo-Carr likes to tug at his Bulldogs emblem when he scores a try, but would he be there if he wasn't being paid fullback money?

Interestingly, on 360 Gordie referred to the Broncs as 'we' a couple of times. I wonder if Kevvie has reached out to him a bit more and maybe the club too and it is great to be getting these types back on board.

There aren't many wingers on $500k, and despite him being a Storm darling, I don't consider him elite. He is fast, very fast, but that's it.

What do you think he's worth? 400-500k is about the going rate for any good winger.

I thought that was what Peak Oates was signed to and it was considered far too much for a winger, even one as good as Peak Oates. I would pay that sort of money to a Nofoaluma who also contributes massive metres in exit sets as well as being an elite finisher. JAC gets rag-dolled too easily, I'd say $400 - $450k, which doesn't sound far from $500k but still. There were even hints of the Bulldogs justifying his money by hinting he'd be their fullback IIRC.

Bonuses start at 200k for making the top 8.

His base contract is 800k a year

OK I'm on my high horse again, because why not. I want to look at the two binnings from lastnight. First is Keppie's:

IMO, not a great look and worthy of a penalty, but the binning I think was a bit rough given that he was only half a foot off the ground and didn't land in a dangerous position. Part 2 to come.

Compare and contrast with Frizell on Patty, off the ball too I might add (the others above were tackles on the ball carrier). Keep in mind this tackle was reviewed by the bunker and 'cleared':

Now, I'm not saying this is a dangerous tackle as such. I don't think Pat was put in a dangerous position and usually I would be kind of OK with it. But for the sake of consistency...Tyson lifted, drove, and ended up shouldering Pat in the head. This was not even deemed to be a penalty, yet the two above were binnings?? Bear in mind, Flegler got binned right for tackling AFB a millisecond too late in a normal front on tackle (at least penalised) and apparently this was the letter of the law. In this instance, Carrigan is effectively belted off the ball and potentially dangerously but its cleared as ok?

The Broncos and Cowboys won a combined 14 games last year. After 11 rounds this year, they have won a combined 15. That is a serious turnaround for both clubs and certainly one that I didn't see coming. A lot can change in the second half of this season and no doubt Origin commitments will take it's toll on both sides. But both teams should make the playoffs and both have the potential to go deep.

I am tired of referees letting the panthers move off the defensive line too early. They have done it for years now. They move as soon as the ball hits the ground before it is even played/rolled.

They let Melbourne get away with the wrestle for years and now they are letting the panthers get away with this. It is infuriating
