NRL Grand Final - Storm v Cowboys

Seems like you're trying to diminish his form by looking into the future.

It just seems pointless and overly cynical to me.

He is not doing that at all. He is responding to claims and 'I told you so's' from people that Morgan is now a premier half. To get that title you need sustained form over a long period. He is not diminishing his current form.

I bet Thurston is glad he extended before Morgan hit this type of form. Would have been interesting if the cows had to decide now if they should hand over a mill a season to him.

Come on, this is Johnathan Thurston. One of the greatest of all time.

Morgan's form would have had no impact, especially since Thurston was only re-signing for one more year.

JT does the same in origin/tests with Cronk or Lockyer in taking the step back role and chiming in when he sees something but let those other two guys do the bulk of the organization.

Morgan won't be forced to take too much of a step back next year, Green is too smart of a coach to go completely back to JT now. That team will be nigh on unstoppable next season.

Yeah, I agree. I can see Morgan taking the reponsibility of organising and guiding their sets while using his running game when needed and Thurston concenetrating more at looking for attacking opportunities. Sort of how it is with Cronk and Thurston.

Right now Morgan runs the ship and having that freedom is paying off. However, before he can really grow into the role, he's got to revert back to being a second receiver where the dynamic will be different. By the time he'll get another opportunity to run the ship like he is right now, it won't be the same and there's no guarantee he will be able to replicate this type of form we're seeing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see other halves pass him by in the coming years. He'll still be up there because even before then he was a very good player, but this type of form is incredibly rare.
I know you fancy yourself as a writer and a few others do as well but you'll just have to overcome the urge to write 'back' after the word 'revert'. It's superfluous ( redundant ) and a common tautology and I just know you'll take this criticism with good humour. Just discipline yourself, if you use revert----- stop and think ha ha

And business is business. Would you commit to a million dollar deal if you thought you didn't have to.
All hypothetical anyway

He doesn't do it in club land, though.

In fact, ever since he was shifted to halfback he gets his hands on the ball just as much as he did prior to 2015 and when you compare it to Morgan, there is a pretty big gap. He is still the one controlling the team, organizing everything, directing players around the field setting things up for the next play. But he hasn't really taken a step back. He still wants his hands on the ball in the big plays and will pass it off to Morgan if he sees that he has a better opportunity, but if he doesn't then he wants it. Which is why he was filthy at Granville for not passing him the ball in Round 4 last year so he can kick the field goal to win the game.

That won't change next year, it's not the way Thurston does things and Morgan will go back to being a supporting half. Because you can't have two halves trying to control the team, it just creates problems.

They aren't paying Thurston $1 million next year to take a step back.

They're due for a massive premiership hangover though. 2 gfs in 3 years. It's the only thing I can think of why they wouldn't go well next year.

Tautautology. The book of moga. Where passing is a sin and defence is the devil.

Cowboys set to drop Jensen and bring in Scott.

I must say if I was Jensen I would be pretty fucking devastated, making it to the GF in his first season only to be dropped. But that's just the way it is, Scott was always going to come first.

Even though he isn't match fit, he wouldn't make less of an impact then what Jensen has been.

I can see it already. The cowgirls win and Scott gives Jensen his premiership ring ala Thurston and Price. The NRL boost their fairytale storyline, the media expands their circle jerk and everyone laps it up like sycophantic morons.

**** this game.

And possibly believing their own hype. If they can reach a GF without their superstar halfback and premier prop, then they surely can easily get there with them. Not that I believe much in this... Green seems to be quite capable in the psychological stakes.

The fact that Thurston will be retiring next year will give them that hunger.

Jensen has offered to step aside if the coach wants. Scott won't play unless there's an injury to one of the other foresrds

Yep he is a great coach. Don't forget, they also get McLean next season, one scary team that's for sure!

Meanwhile the broncos can't even find a halfback or lock down a prop who's been in jail and needs a life line.

Morgan to remain at 7 and Thurston to halfback in '18?
