From the bench? Apart from that finals run where everyone fell over he’s been average. Would have made a good fullback or centre but a half he is not

I think he is a 5/8 trying to be a halfback and it's not working

The Mole: North Queensland Cowboys' plan to land Latrell Mitchell
The Mole2 hours ago
The Cowboys are thinking of selling off popular hooker Jake Granville to boost their kitty to sign the most sought after player in the game - Latrell Mitchell.

Granville was one of the heroes of the Cowboys' 2015 Grand Final win but the club has signed promising hooker Reece Robson from the Dragons for 2020.

Cowboys officials believe that pairing Mitchell and new signing Valentine Holmes will give them the hottest backline in the game next season, and a real crack at the title.

Granville, who turned 30 early this year, has been offered to several English clubs while Manly, short on hooking experience, may also be keen on his services.

The Cowboys are trying to keep the negotiations quiet - but two English clubs have confirmed that Granville has been put to them.

Mitchell, meanwhile, is reportedly still on the radar of the Tigers, Rabbitohs, Titans and Cowboys.

Too much smoke to this Mitchell to the Cows for my liking.

I would be more hesitant to sign with them because they haven't played finals in 10 years. All their talented players soon clear out for green pastures elsewhere.

Sure and the management of the club has been their biggest downfall. However from a player development perspective, they've got a good record and with the way their roster is shaping up, it looks like they're finally heading in a good direction.

it's rubbish, Cowboys don't have anywhere near the room needed, he will be at the Wests Tigers. The whole thing was a farce.

Yeah cowboys will stretch themselves pretty thin if they do, they are a couple of injuries away from an even worse season.

At least Latrell is now "the most sought after player in the game" and it's no longer Fifi.

Honestly I think whoever is willing to pay Latrell that much is taking on a huge risk.

He has talent for sure, but his consistency in games makes Milf look like Cam Smith.

You'd also want to be getting him into preseason ASAP to make sure he doesn't pile on the kilos... otherwise one of your $1M years has a real chance of becoming a right off before it even starts.

They are clearing the decks. If They move who they are rumoured to be moving on, they will have the space and finances to do it.

Latrell was a heap more consistent than Milford was last year.

the Panthers have reportedly signed Zane Tetevano to replace RCG and the contract is "less than half" of what RCG was on

So the Cows would have to move on Morgan one would think but who would take him on? And if they dump Granville, Morgan and change, who do they replace them with?

A spine of:

1. Holmes
6. Drinkwater
7. Clifford
9. Robson

14. ?

That's a very risky questionable spine.

Latrell could add a lot of strike power to the Cows backline, which was frankly a big letdown compared to their pack.

He's a proper 5/8. Outside a Halfback like DCE he'd be a really good option.

Morgan would be a direct swap for Mitchell salary wise. Id punt Milford for Morgan instantly

Yeah my thoughts exactly. They obviously had money put aside for Holmes, but on top of that, they've been able to offload Kahu at around 400k and if they could offload Granville too on probably similar money or more, then they would definitely be in the ballpark for Mitchell if he was prepared to accept around the 800k mark.

Why would they be dumping Morgan, their marquee play maker, to buy a Centre? That seems very unlikely.

You can't fit 4 x $1Mil players(JT/Holmes/Morgan/Mitchell) under the current cap (roughly 40% of your cap on 4 players out of 30) and then expect that the quality in the rest of the squad not to suffer, it will have to give somewhere, whether that be on the bench and/or in your depth players.

You would have to be hoping for a miracle season without very low number of injuries, especially to those high earners.........its a massive risk.

*Edit* Well you can do it but you would have to be nuts to.
