NRL Player Movements & Rumours

I said it would be interesting to see what the Gold Coast would do, but then I remembered they spent 650,000 a year on an unproven rookie.

Even if Tino lives up to the hype, that's the type of reckless spending that's put them in this mess.
I'm not sure they have freed up enough cash if they release Arrow early... weren't there reports they only had a couple $100k, so including Arrow you'd think they would only be bordering on $700-800k for Latrell and however many more they need for their top 30.

It would seem Latrell is going to Souths as well... so realistically titans would be freeing up cash only to see their star forward and primary target head to the same club. Maybe storm release Tino early but they've had a lot of turnover as it is already.

To me it only appears to benefit Souths if Arrow gets released early... so I hope titans keep Arrow for 2020 and Souths sit there with $1m of cap space burning a hole in their pocket and put a severe dent in one of their premiership rivals hopes

Mal said that ... before releasing a list of targets that would cost $1 million a season to buy (a list that included Fifita)

That's a tough loss for the Gold Coast, but it's not the end of the world either. Arrow is an easy player to appreciate because he's so whole hearted, but at the end of the day the Gold Coast weren't exactly in the premiership race with him in the team. If they had to invest even more cash just to keep him, it would have made it difficult to make the changes they need to make.

I also have some trepadation with Arrow and how he goes about his business. He always gives a 100% which is ideally what you want, but the problem is his body struggles to keep up. In his two years at the Gold Coast, he's picked up two injuries that have derailed his season and prevented him from making the contributions he's capable of.

It was a significant slide mind you. I'd say he went from an A to an A-/B+ but it was just noticeable enough where it was having a negative impact on the rest of his team. As the years go on and his body accumulates more bumps and bruises, I just don't think it'd be wise to invest that amount of money into a middle forward.

I'm keen to see how the Gold Coast dig themselves out of the muck. I think you can just about put a red line through 2020, they've just got too much dead wood in the side but come 2021 when they've got more freedom and Holbrook has more say on the roster they could find themselves in the mix. At the very least, they could weaken a few other teams.

Something of a strange signing for Souths. I suppose their middle forward rotation could use another big name and he should tighten the ruck but that's a lot of money for a workhorse.
Trepi

I wouldn't pay 800k for him. I know they're different players, but we have TPJ on 600k and he is a legitimate game breaker.

This will be your typical long-term Wayne signing that haunts them after he's gone.

I think the Tits are doing the right thing and people should understand that releasing Arrow early will be a good thing. The Titans aren't paying Arrow that sort of cash and should they do a deal you can bet they'll earn a few quid along the way. The new coach has doubtless had his say and probably believes he can build a champion team rather than a team of champions. I hope Mitchell ends up nowhere near the Tits. The new coach might even surprise a few around here with lesser lights given a shot although I'm not saying people have been shitting on him.

I have very little confidence the Titans can pull themselves out of this shitpit they have sunk into. At the very least, they need a passionate and present fanbase to keep them motivated to be better, but they just don't have that. They also don't have the benefit of a strong rival team in the area to keep them honest, as the Suns are arguably in a worse state than the Tits which frankly is astonishing to me. That AFL warchest could keep the Titanic afloat for hours but surely their patience has to be wearing thin.

Same story for the NRL. There has to be only so much money they're still willing to throw at the Gold Coast expecting some sort of stunning turnaround in the regions attitude toward professional sport. Losing Arrow to one of the big 4 and gaining a nobody for such big money is a troubling sign of more of the same in this next decade as we saw in the previous from the Titans, and eventually that castle of cards is going to come down hard.

I don't know if Souths have as much money free as we think.................Gagai, Roberts, Cook, Walker, Reynolds, Burgess, Murray and now Arrow.............then add 800-900k for Mitchell.

When you have someone like Cam Murray in the side, I don't see the point of signing Arrow. Unless Souths are planning on using Murray on the edge.

Strange signing. Seems more of a luxury buy.

I can see Murray being moved to an edge tbh.

Murray on an edge could be fucking ludicrous.

he went out to the centre’s in a game and just ran riot

I know this will sound weird based on last season but I think the Suns are on the way up and may way do so quickly, in the next 2-3 seasons. The light does not look at all as promising for the Titans.

1. Douehi
2. Johnston
3. Roberts
4. Gagai
5. Graham
6. Walker
7. Reynolds
8. Burgess

16. Nicholls?
17. Turner?

Is this a good side?

I don't think Souths are making the right call moving him to the edge.

He's a gun, he's better than Arrow and should play in that lock position.

George Burgess and Kyle Turner are no longer at the club.

Tatola will be on the bench, Amone is a strong shot of being on there as well. Otherwise it'll be a bolter like Rodwell, Kolomatangi or Dillon.

Bennett also likes to have cover for his outside backs so whoever misses out from Doueihi, Gagai, Roberts, Burns, Graham, Burns, Marsters etc. will find themselves there.

Otherwise it's a very good side. It's just a question of how they handle the transition after losing Inglis, Sutton and Burgess in one fell swoop. I was under the impression that they would struggle to replace their leadership initially.

Do they still have two Burgesses? They've lost George and Sam. They'll drop out of the top 4 imo. The loss of the good Burgess bros is going to hurt them, especially George and the fast PTBs he provided Cook. Sides now just have to wrestle the shit out of Murray to stop him giving Cook lighting fast PTBs and you've just neutralised their main attacking weapon.

That backrow is crap, that bench is crap, the backline is horrific, and the spine is average if Cook gets worked out.

EDIT: And as has been the case for the past few years, if Reynolds, who is made of glass, ever cops a significant injury they're cooked.

Courier Mail reporting that Bennett has backflipped and Souths are now interested in Laterall Mitchell.

according to the report sources have suggested that "influential connections extremely close to Souths" have offered to pay Mitchell's release fee to his current agent so he can sign with Matt Rose (who has links with Souths)

Surely, if this is true and the release fee is paid by people with close connections to Souths, then that fee would need to be counted under Souths cap (as they wouldn't be offering to pay it for him to sign elsewhere) ...

Yes but you know, Souths.

Then you find out the close connections to souths is just the NRL
