The way the out the back depth plays are now in attack, the fb is the most important position in the game and we haven’t had a gun since kunt left. Who’s our best Hope in the system coming through? It’s not isaako, he’s done fine but he’s not winning us a comp. Tesi niu?
Other than Niu it's probably Reece Walsh but he's a while off

Plenty won’t want to admit it for various reasons but Latrell is a better fullback than CNK.
CNK is a thoroughly underrated Fullback. He and Hodgson were critical in carrying Canberra's spine to the Grand Final last season.

Latrell has certainly got the better CV as a player overall, but as solely a Fullback, there really isn't enough of a sample size to make a statement like that.

I think those FBs look a lot better behind a great team. Not taking away from the players buuuut it sure helps to have a good team to make a FB look better. Gutho looked pretty meh behind 2018 Eels and RTS looks pretty mild behind the Warriors compared to the Roosters. Milf was looking shit hot in 2015 behind a good team.
RTS mild behind the Warriors? You've honestly got to be kidding? The man literally carried an entire club for two seasons basically on his own. He might not have been flashy like Tedesco or Turbo, but he was simply enormous for the Warriors. He even won a Dally M, which is a media driven award, playing for the most unfashionable and arguably most ignored club in the game.

Time to let Ponga go. He'll be off to Rugby Union next. Besideswhich, by that date we'll be fending off offers for Niu, Farnworth & Coates or someone you haven't even heard of yet.
It's not just about missing out on Ponga though. It's what it represents about the Broncos currently.

There was a time not so long ago were Ponga to the Broncos would have been a fait accompli, but those days are no far, far behind us and probably never coming back.

Well you can be sure he talked to the Broncos so it has to have been about money. Unless there's a conflict with another player - like his former schoolmate Croft - we don't know about. Maybe if Milford hadn't excercised his option we might've been able to afford him.

I'd feel better about losing what I thought was a certain signing, if we'd seen a bit more of Niu.

I read somewhere possibly on Bhq that ponga’s dad is set to be at the press conference when his new deal is officially announced. If true this is not really normal behaviour, Kalyn is a grown man now.

I’d take RTS in a heartbeat. Can we swap them for Milf? They’d be on about the same wage but one is twice as good as the other.

It's a contract for 2022 onwards though yeah? So Milford and Bird activating their clauses shouldn't have had any impact at all?

Money should really have been the least of our issues. We have a LOT of money to play with after 2021 if Milford and Bird were to not be given new deals.

Except Newcastle have basically doubled his current salary starting next year.

If he was going to wait for the Broncos he would have to play through 2021 without that upgrade... he'd also have to wait for a contract to come through on November 1 2021 and who knows what might happen in the meantime that could lower his value (injuries, form, drop in salary cap, etc.).

He's cashed in whilst he's on top rather than waiting on what might be in 18 months time

Brisbane technically could never speak terms with Ponga.
Living in Newcastle, I knew he was never leaving, which I mentioned a couple of times on here.
Brisbane no longer are “the club” which they once were. They don’t have the pulling power unless you’re a player who has come through their ranks.
Newcastle will be a genuine threat in this competition for the next 3 or so years. Very financially stable, well loved by the media, building a solid roster, the entire town is behind them and looks like they now have a coach who could get them deep into the finals.

Now imagine if the team was as good as the he was.

RTS excelled in a shit Warriors side. I guess that's what makes a real star, you can still play well even if your coach and/or squad is pretty shit. I'd love to have him at the Broncos too.

Imagine being 16 years old, still in High School and getting a $1.7m deal.

This is reminiscent of the Payne Haas deal that Wayne orchestrated, except even more money. This kid must be special..

Not as good as the Haas deal... Haas' contract runs through to when he's 23/24... this kid will be off contract when he's 19.

If he goes as well as anticipated they'll have to throw the cheque book at him to keep him... it seems to be more like Ponga.

Huge money early based almost entirely off potential but comes off contract pretty quickly and will have to stump up huge money to retain him

Actually how does this deal even work in regards to the salary cap??

He's 16 so he can't be included in the top 30 squad... where's does the $500k sit??

According to the article, can only be registered when he turns 17 in August.

Won't be able to play first grade until the later rounds of '21, but most likely the start of the '22 season.

It's a three year deal, so they have him until 2023.

So the $500k sits under their cap as someone they can't use until backend of 2021 at the earliest??

Just wondering because if there is no limit on throwing money at prospects outside the top 30 then isn't that a pretty massive loophole for rich clubs to lock in highly promising juniors?
