NRL Players and family members in hot water

Having watched a lot of YouTube videos about Rugby Union refs, the way players interact with the ref is chalk and cheese.

Cant believe the NRL has tolerated the way players talk to the ref. Especially with how much the mics pick up.

You'd run out of players very quickly in a union match if that's how the players acted.

I dont think it does miss the point really. You are clearly trying to say if the ref did his job properly it wouldn't have happened. Which is right, but it still doesnt take away that the manly player was bang out of order regardless. Shows what he must be like as a person imo. It does sound to me like you are trying to justify why he did it in a way. Doesnt matter what the ref did, you just dont throw around that type of abuse. It went way, way past just criticising his decision. If it was a white player abusing a black ref, i doubt he would be playing again this year, if at all ever again.
Victim blaming is a fun pastime for many.

Its the one thing Union has over league in my opinion.
The respect and deference the players show the refs is second to none and is a far better look for the game than knuckle headed footballers dropping F-bombs because they disagree with a call.

I can't believe the commentators initially 'missed' Mitchell's swinging arm on Reynolds. Old Rabs reckoned he rag dolled him.

If that was a Bronco there would be pandemonium and Druggie Johns would be like "we're trying to promote this game to the kids and mother's see this and don't want their sons playing, we should rub him out for at least 9 weeks, the game does not need this".

Instead all we got was ....crickets.

Imagine if that was Lodge or TPJ.

It was just as bad on Fox with Brandy the dumbass Alexander saying there was nothing in it and at most will get a week.
Intentionally hitting a guy in the head, from behind as 2nd man in.
Mitchell is a fucking grub and should be sat for a month.
If it was TPJ he would be staring down the barrel of a 10 game suspension.

I can only speak for me personally, but i think calling somebody a spastic or a retard is just as back as calling a black person the "N" word. The reason i dont type out the "N' word anyway is just me presuming it will already be censored on here and their could be repercussions. I have qualms about typing any of them tbh.
I have a staff chat thread about that word but this is not about history and not a complaint in any way about moderation.

What sort of world is it that simply describing a conversation between two or more African-Americans means you cannot commit to paper what has been spoken out loud and frequently recorded without deletion or censorship of any kind?
Every sentence opening with n.....? We're allowed to record it, were allowed to replay it time and time again without fear of reprisal, we're allowed to hear it, lip read it and watch it being said but oh my god, forbidden to transcribe it !!!!! What.The.**** ?
No, this isn't about moderation on this site, I mean in general in society today. I think not being able to write it down is fucking ridiculous, I mean they're allowed to write it in a script, in a court and on a wall even so why is it forbidden to simply transcribe all words in a conversation?

The n word hasn’t been acceptable since the 60s. Retard and spastic is still on the way out sadly. “Mental retardation” was still in use in many legal documents until the 2000s. Not to mention idiot, moron, imbecile, etc were all used medically until they became widely used as insults and were replaced by retarded. No one has any issues with throwing those words around today. It’s interesting that there seems to be a Goldilocks zone for mental disability terms and offensiveness, and retard and spastic are currently occupying that zone.

now of course those words are offensive and should not be used as insult, especially not when broadcasted to thousands of people in what is expected to be a pretty safe space (ie watching a sporting match). But I think in this case, using it as an opportunity to educate people about the harm of such words is a better avenue to take than completely vilifying some young footy playing idiot because the imbecile didn’t know that he shouldn’t use such moronic insults.
I had someone tell me I shouldn't use the word retard. At the time I was explaining how dynamic braking works on a diesel locomotive! I did tell them to **** right off and to report me if they wished!!

****, I've just watched both clips and TPJ would be gone for the season had he committed those fouls. In fact any Bronco would be facing 8 weeks but TPJ especially. I bet the charge (should be multiple charges) will be downgraded because of reasons.

I'm a plane nerd, so find myself watching aircraft videos quite a bit. Planes on decent to a runway will provide readouts of the height. On an Airbus, they also advise the pilot when they should retard the engines. So it shouts "RETARD RETARD RETARD".

There is always multiple comments from people who have reduced their brain power, believing that Airbus are meaning to offend down syndrome people.

Dude i love cockpit view videos, i spend hours watching them on youtube, and i especially love night landings in the rain in the Airbus A380.
I always wondered what it meant when it says retard over and over, and figured it meant throttle back the engines for landing or something like that.

Anyway, i think this hyper offended society we live in has gone mad, if i called anyone in here a retard in French or German, you would have no clue what i was on about and it would be no big deal.
Words are just sounds, us hairless monkeys make to communicate, and i seriously believe people need thicker skin.
If a word is used in hate, thats shitty, but using the world light-heartedly shouldnt be a big deal in my opinion.
Also, sticks and stones etc etc.
Harden the **** up world.

It means slow or slowed, so in a plane it just means turn throttle to 0% which flattens the flight profile and allows the plane sink to the ground in the final 0-20m

Corey Harawira-Naera and Jayden Okunbor have been re-instated by the NRL.

they have been hit with 10 and 14 match bans respectively (and around 20k in fines each)

Harawira-Naera will be available for selection for the Bulldogs in round 11 and Okunbor in round 15
