Good showing from the all the broncos... X and Arthars were two of the Maoris best.
Riki didn't do anything amazing, but he looked pretty solid in defence out on the edge... he was trying hard on kick chase, but Kodi's pop gun kicks had them catching about 20m from him getting there

Yeah very happy with all three Broncs, the fitness level is clear. Xman possibly the biggest bloke out there and was running as hard as anyone at the end.

I would still give Riki first crack and a chance to prove himself.
I think the attack from both sides was disjointed quite a bit tonight. I would like to see what Madge can do with him.

Do you mean mid-game?
I'm not sure some of these players are ready for that... they need to nail down one role before even thinking about getting multiple roles within a game.
I'd like to see Cobbo left and Arthars right.
Arthars showed tonight how important the ball carrying hand is... had it in the right hand leaving the left hand ready to swat Khan Pereira away with ease.
There's also the advantage it has on put downs... when the ball is in the outside hand they can get themselves much further outside the touch line and still get it in without giving much of their arm away to the defender... there's already been a couple bombed tries these trials with the arm getting tackled from the inside and dropping the ball.

For first game of the season:
Arthars - 9 - Couldn’t really ask more than that and harsh not to get a ten but a point deducted for the hair. He’s proving to be somewhat of a big game player, great seeing him pop up both sides of the field. He looks noticeably bigger, great first up game.
Willison - 8 - A bit rocks and diamonds but given the context of first game, he looked fantastic. Was carrying defenders on his back and damaged every time he had the ball. Some fantastic cover tackles and he has a real knack for a fullback defensive play. Was running as hard and fast at the end as the start, looked so much like Haas out there with worse hair and slightly thinner. Looked all at sea in the second row but I’ll forgive him for that. Came up with some errors but also at least got there for fantastic effort plays. Looked agile too, great signs.
Riki - 6 - Nice last ditch tackle at the end but is just so meh. His defense looked good but offers absolutely nothing in attack and he really should, he’s extremely athletic. He looked fit though but a point off for the hair too.

He's built like a greek god but he's soft af. Zero mongrel or go forward when he has the ball. I really don't get it. When was the last time he actually broke a tackle lol?

Yeah probably right but how good is it to know he can play both sides equally well.

Right arm carry left hand fend looked very effective .
Similar to Cobbo with a left arm carry .
That used to baffle me when Kevvie put Selwyn on the right .

All 3 Broncos look fit as, great to see.
Impressed with Arthurs and Willison who looks confident and full of self belief.
Agree with Riki assessments unfortunately . He has regressed since 2023. He won't run aggressively at a hole, prefers the ball in hand before the line.
Our second row is def our shortcoming.
